Norwegian massmurderer played world of warcraft..Follow

#1 Jul 23 2011 at 3:48 PM Rating: Default
The man responsible for killing nearly 100 people yesterday played world of warcraft.

His character was named conservatism, and was on the silvermoon realm.

http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/search?q=conservatism

They are now trying to blame world of warcraft as one of the reasons for him being mad...

Do you have an article stating this or is it just word-of-mouth? If it is true, yeah I could see them trying to blame WoW. People need scape goats and are willing to point fingers at things they don't understand.

On a side note, it is kinda sad that you would point his character out like that.

I'm going to sum up the entirety of the thread that will follow: People are idiots, and will blame various things for anything. Look at the whole "D&D is a satanic cult" thing, or heck, even Jacko the Wacko. Though he hasn't really done anything since he got disbarred, that I've heard of.

One of these days I'm going to snap. And I'm going to blame the latest gaming fad.

All this proves is that even criminals play video games.

Besides, World of Warcraft has around 11 or 12 million subscribers; it's nothing more than a coincidence that he is, or may be, one of them.

I'm more inclined to blame his radical religious beliefs, personally, since he called the attack a protest against Islamic immigration to his country because he didn't believe in multiculturalism.

The guy was a serius nutcase.

Made a bomb out of fertilizer. Parked the bomb outside the government buildings.
When the bomb went off all police and rescue workers were sent there.
Meanwhile he drives out to the youthcamp and spends the next hour and a half killing close to 90 kids. When the police arrives he calmly surrenders.

He now claims that he didnt like killing all those people. But it had to be done. I think he believes that this is some kinda cleansing.

Here's a link for people who want to read up on it a bit. It mostly details his internet history as they search for clues to his behavior.

Edit: According to the link, the guy could get 21 years in prison, "Norway’s toughest punishment."

Is it just me, or should this guy get a bit more than that? I don't know if Norway has the death penalty, and if not, I think the guy at least needs life in prison.

So this means if I want to kill someone I should take them on vacation to Norway? Or am I missing the point of the thread?

Norway doesnt have the death penalty. It was abolished? after the war.
It is possible to get a stronger sentence. Not in prison but in a locked mental institution.
This means that they are sentenced to treatment and lockup. This can be prolonged as long as they feel that the person, is not sane enough to get out. So this is in essence a life sentence.

Wait, twenty-one years combined or twenty-years for each crime committed? I assume it's the latter, but the way that article was worded makes it seem like the former.

I hope your prison psychiatrists are better than ours. Some of the bottom feeders working in US prison mental hospitals are just likely enough to declare him sane and let him go.

There is a place in the world for mob vengeance and lynching - although no penalty limited to a single death could ever be adequate recompense for crimes of such a horrific and calculating nature. And I don'r buy insanity either. the degree of organization involved in his actions argues that he could not possibly be insane in any incapacitating way.

Psychopathy is a mental disorder, but you have the ability to appear normal, even though you can't form human connections, and don't feel empathy for your fellow man. It's entirely possible he's a psychopath, so he's not incapacitated by a disorder, and lets face it, you'd have to be fairly emotionless to murder 90+ people.

Edit: I might mean Sociopath, I just can't ever remember the difference.

That guy needs to be put in prison for life a real nasty one where it's a living hell. This whole article makes me sick to my stomach.

Funny part is I remember reading actual parent responses like that towards video games. Heck if memory serves correctly it was a link someone gave. Was hilarious to read.

When I worked at Borders, I had a furious customer get into my face once for talking to her kid about video games and Warcraft.
"Do you deny that there are DEMONS in that game?!"

The world is crazy.
I think if this guy does get a short sentence, there'll be a lot of people around to remember it, and would be waiting for him. That's if he survives prison.

You should have asked her if she was possessed.

Where's the B & C option, cause I've not done A yet, and cannot at this time accurately answer this poll.
