my friend and i have been trying to decide whether or not to buy WoW for a while. Im not the most experienced MMO player, i played DC universe online for a while, but that and the WoW free trial are the only real MMO I've ever played. Is it worth it to buy the game?

Bleh, these questions are getting annoying.

First off you're asking a forum board dedicated to World of Warcraft. Of course people are going to say, "yes, it is worth it." Second, it's up to you. If you like playing the trial then you'll like playing the actual game. Considering the trial is now unlimited in time and allows you to level to 20 you can experience quite a bit in the game before you decide if you want to invest in it.

You have nothing to lose. The starter edition is free.

Nah, its not worth it. You'll end up losing all your free time, doing without sleep, and your spouse, kids and pets will hate you - if they remember you at all.

As was said before, pick up the trial and give it a whirl. Level several classes up to 20, both Horde and Alliance, and get a feel for the crafting. The game is solid and very enjoyable. That said it has a pretty bad case of the pricks so be mindful of that when you ask questions. Also to keep in mind if you decide to purchase all the expansions you will be paying roughly $100 so it isn't the cheapest thing to dive into. Although since the orginal game comes with Burning Crusades now you could hold off on getting the other two expansions until you get up there. You will just be unable to play as a death knight, goblin, or worgen. Not sure if you could get archeology (probably not).

Good luck with your decision and have fun. :)

Dadanox, thanks for the link. I remember this being announced, but didn't know that it had actually been implemented. I'm going to have to give it a try, just to see what it is like playing on NA servers.

Go back in time and start playing in 2004-5, then you could be done with the game like I am by now! Only took me 5 years.
