Are up.

I've been eagerly awaiting these. I'm hopeful they really have control over mana regen as much as they say they do, and am still skeptical of the concept of critical being useful to healers.

Your thoughts?

Q: Do you feel that the three-heal model you implemented at the start of Cataclysm is a success? Have you changed your expectations or goals in regards to the three-heal model after watching a tier of raiding? How do you feel about how the various specs are using or avoiding these three core heals? – Anohako (NA)

A: Overall, we still like the model and we intend to keep supporting it. One flaw with the system is that healers in 5-player dungeons often have to make harder choices about which of the three core heals to use at any given moment. In raids, especially in 25-player mode, healers can afford to specialize more. To be fair, raids often replace spell-choice complexity with encounter complexity, but overall it would be nice if players graduated from less complexity to more complexity as they went into more challenging content rather than the reverse. As a theoretical example, imagine that priests didn’t have access to Greater Heal in 5-player dungeons, so the choice would be between the fast, expensive Flash Heal vs. the slower, efficient Heal (in addition to all their other tools of course). It’s hard to develop a system that would make such a restriction make sense, but you get the idea.

Uh-oh. I read this as "We're going to make Druids use Nourish more" which is going to be pretty... interesting. They'd have to make it not useless first. Maybe have it heal more than what my Protection Paladin can pump out with his innate strength to spell power conversion.

Also, no Q&A on how they managed to mess up triage healing. Was really hoping I'd have a few laughs there, but alas. Oh well, perhaps I'll save the chuckles for when the tanking Q&A comes.

It was definitely an interesting read. I really do wish they'd reduce the CD for Divine Hymn for the healing specs. It seems unfair to me that Resto druids get a talent to reduce the CD down from 8 minutes to 3, while there is no option for priests to do the same with their channeled AoE heal. It also doesn't seem as strong as Tranq either, but that could be because I typically use DH while I'm raiding as shadow to help out the healers during intensive damage phases.

I already use Nourish quite a bit with my druid. I had a couple guildies give me some pointers while I was healing in a heroic with them, and they said that Nourish is basically a resto druid's filler spell. It uses such a small amount of mana, that you essentially want to use it as your refresher for Harmony and Lifebloom when the tank isn't taking a lot of damage. When they are, use Regrowth instead as it actually heals a good amount.

Nice read. I agree that DH seems a bit weak, like the health pools got huge, but the hymn didn't scale up to match it. I wouldn't like them to improve it for holy only. Disc likes DH too.

I don't really see any major problems with disc healing, so I'll just take any changes as they come.

If you see it coming in time you can move from Nourish -> Healing Touch when the tank takes more damage, rather than from Nourish -> Regrowth. You don't have nearly as large of a HPM loss and RG spam wastes the HoT anyway. Smiley: grin

Our plan was always that healers could gradually grow out of being very mana-limited, but we didn’t want that to happen in the very first tier of content. If it happens in the final tier of content, that’s fine. It will help healers feel like they have actually become more powerful from accumulating so much gear. Consider that tank health, mitigation and avoidance increase with each tier, as does the size of heals and the rate at which you cast them, and those are probably sufficient to offset the increased damage being done by bosses and trash.

I took that as "well we never really planned on doing true long-term triage healing anyway, so we're not too upset it didn't work so well."

Yeah, from what I've read, Regrowth is essentially the priest's Flash Heal. So that's the way I've been using it. =x

It is, and is meant to be used as such. Smiley: smile

It just has a % of it's healing done from the HoT (and that 20-some % chance not to crit when talented...) which sadly makes it less effective its FoL/FH counterparts. Why they designed a 'quick heal' with a HoT I'll never understand. Smiley: rolleyes

(and perhaps I'm just envious of when I can go on my pally, hit FoL, and actually feel like I'm getting something useful out of it... )

Yeah I think it's weird too. I mean it's better than nothing, and it does seem to work pretty effectively at what it's intended for, but it's still strange.

Regrowth is hilarious. The worst fast heal in the game, I bet.

It heals for less than my Priest's Flash Heal. My Priest is 78 and has 1200 spell power. My Druid has 7k.

I stopped reading this series I think after the 2nd or 3rd Ask the Devs came out. They really do not provide any useful information, rather point out what is already common knowledge, and always avoids the more direct line of questioning with general information.

I do enjoy Ghostcrawlers blogs. He generally doesn't beat around the bush with a topic.

GC actually answers questions, the blogs just answer softball questions and don't really help spread understanding at all.
