I played the wow beta way back in the day, but the graphics weren't my cup of tea. I recently heard that the game now has some fairly good graphics options along with Directx11 support, so I signed up for the trial this week. I want to do some framerate testing, so I'm wondering where the best place to test is. I made my way to Stormwind trade district, and it seems to have a fair amount of characters in view, but it doesn't have much spellcasting effects or other action visible. Is there some sort of PvP area I can spectate in, with perhaps hundreds of characters visible at once? Or some other place that will load my system more than near Stormwind auction house?

Stormwind would be more intensive than a BG, as it's using the newest graphical systems and contains a large number of characters. Best case scenario, you could catch a raid going for Varian. But even that won't be perfect, since the throne room isn't really graphically intensive.

That said, SW is probably the most graphically intensive experience in the game right now. Only thing that worse is the Molten Front (and only right now, when the dailies are new), and you can't access that until much later.

To answer your question more specifically, though... No, there is nowhere in game (besides the MF for the next month or two) where you'll see hundreds of people causing spell effects.

WoW's graphics have come a long way, but it's still the same design aesthetic. They are just able to give higher-end features now, since systems have gotten better. The game's beautiful, especially on strong rigs, but if you didn't like the cartooney graphics then, you won't like them now.

Try Rift.

The throne room can be graphic intensive. If there's 100+ Allies waiting for you there. =x When I did an Ally raid a few weeks back, once there got to be a fair amount of people fighting back, and everyone's spells and abilities going off, my computer didn't like it very much. And I usually run 50-60 fps on Good settings. I had the same issue with my server's pride parade two weeks ago.

...We had a pride parade?

Yeah, Taint and Stonewall Family host it every year. Smiley: tongue We walk to Ratchet from N. Barrens (Horde started at the top at that little camp, don't know where the Alliance started), then take the boat to Booty Bay and party! It's fun because of the floats and stuff. My guild does "Size Queens" where we ate the feasts that make you bigger, and rode mammoths. There was also a bear "float" and Dykes on Bikes. Good times.

Where the crap was I when I did this? I never even heard about all of it.

Are you sure I'm on Proudmoore?
#9 Jul 08 2011 at 2:26 AM Rating: Good
You're the one who linked your armory claiming you were on Proudmoore. Why are you asking me if I'm sure that's what server you're on? Smiley: tongue

I think a typo is probably more accurate lol. Did you mean Atlanta? It'd kinda be hard to visit Atlantis with it being underwater and all.

I want what he's having if it's taking him to Atlantis.

Ok, the above posts gave me a pretty good laugh.

Yes, I went to Atlantis. In the Bahamas. One of my dad's friends was having his 40th birthday and was staying down there, so we went and visited for a few days. We stayed at the Atlantis resort.

Now, if there were actual mermaids/other things involved, that would be pretty awesome too.

I looked up the date of the parade, and it turns out it did happen while I was down there.

Mystery solved.

Ah, gotcha. Well you'll definitely have to come next year. I missed it last year myself, mostly because I forgot about it.
