Tanking for moronsFollow

1) Look at your healer's icon on the party bar (healer is the guy with the + on his icon) - see that strip of blue where his rage should be? That's his mana - if you pull when he has very little of it then odds are you will get yourself and everyone else killed.

2) Staying on the theme of healers, healers also have this limitation to their spells called "range." Range means that if you run too far away from the healer because he's sitting down and drinking to restore the blue bar from item 1 then his spells can't reach you. There's a related issue called LOS or line of sight, meaning that if the healer is doing that sit and drink thing and you run around a corner or into a room then his inability to see you makes him incapable of healing you.

3) Warrior and Pally tanks - sword and board is your friend, yes, the DKs look kewl tanking with a 2h weapon but you're not a DK, you need a shield. If you don't have a shield just pick up the hunter and use him as one - not only does this set you up with a shield but it also prevents him from randomly firing into other groups of mobs and wiping the party with overpulls.

4) Druid tanks - yes, you aren't doing ubah damage in bear form against a single target like, say, a boss and the DPS suck so you're tempted to go kitty form to finish the fight faster as well as show the deeps what real DPS is. While that sounds like a good idea, there's one tiny problem with it - kitties don't have the health, AC and damage mitigation of a bear, meaning that there's a very good chance the boss will kill you as the healer is incapable of keeping up.

5) SK tanks - most of you really don't know what you're doing, please just accept the longer queues and go back to a DPS spec.

6) Gear - resilience doesn't help against mobs and while yes, druid tanks do tend to wear mostly DPS gear, you warriors and pallies can't. That means no PvP armor and no wearing your DPS leveling armor either - your job is to hold aggro and not die, your place on the DPS meter is irrelevant.

Those are the basics - once you've mastered these advanced concepts then you'll only be an idiot tank instead of a moron - please find a "tanking for idiots" thread and see about upgrading yourself again - thank you.

(Yes, I've been having a horrific run of ****** tanks.)

Your rant was largely "meh." Was just restating the same problems people have had with newb tanks since the start. But this is just makes me think you are an idiot. Unless we are talking about the 58-60 range, when they are still learning how to tank and still getting their AoE abilities.

1) A valid point.

2) Healers need to follow tank and stay in range of said tank. If they are drinking they should either say something or be ready to chase after the tank when he takes off.

3) People actually do this?

4) I've never seen this either, well except bear/eagle in ZA, going into your DPS stance for the eagle part makes sense.

5) What are SK tanks?

6) Mastery is a tanking stat, this makes 'DPS' plate with high mastery and hit/expertise valuable. Especially for DKs as their Mastery is tied into their attacks landing. Avoidance can always be reforged on to said piece of gear.

Also what Dig said in the second sentence of his post.

Rusttle with a sub par rant about something he's probably incapable of doing? That would be like jays being racist and undeservedly elitest. We'll NEVER see those days.

This is actully one of my bigger pet peeves. I stand back to heal generally at max range from tank, it's the smart thing to do -the whole AOE damage thing and all - and I am entitled to loot my mobs. A lot of tanks drop a group (loot quickly cos they are on top of them) and haul butt way out of my 40 yard range to heal, without giving me one thought to letting me loot my fair share of mobs.

Healers usually are the last to get to the dead mobs (and usually the last to loot because of this), I see it all the time where tanks are way out of range as they commit to the next group when I'm bending over to loot a mob.

I also see it a lot when I do the /oom emote or say I need mana in party chat; which is rare I run low on mana, but with crappy groups, it still happens.

So the above quote is not fully acurate on a healers viewpoint.

Staying in range and in los of each other is BOTH the healer and the tank's job. Not one or the other. It's not that hard for either party to set up their unit frames so that if a person in the group is oor, their frame gets grayed out or something. As I've been tanking with my DK, I've been very cognizant of making sure my healer is keeping up with me, has enough mana, etc. But that's probably due to my having experience as a healer as well. I know what it's like on the other end.

Had a tank today start the Jin'do boss fight ... and he didn't know it. /groupwipe

Is it too hard to say you don't know the fight before you start the damn thing?

With the unfortunate way a lot of people react to someone saying they havn't done the fight a lot of people are afraid to say anything. I to would rather have them say something so I can tell them what to do, but to many people won't. They would rather just drop group than give the player a chance.

I'd assume that but it was russtle. So I'm guessing he did mean SK tanks.

An addition to 6) There is never any need for a tank to wear Intellect gear, especially DKs in BoE Int items.

7) If you are a ****** tank please say something in party chat so I can add you to my ignore list (I'm wondering if you can do it from /w will have to try that next time).

As with regards to your 6), I do recall seeing a chardev for tank loot that included this do the massive amount of mastery and Str being a threat stat for plate tanks.

Edge case FTW.

edit: I'll edit this as I also need to add that do to the higher iLvl it has more stam than tank backs. Editing is evil and I hope I never have to do it again.

Yep, that int back is BiS for DK tanks. Maybe for some others too.
It has more stam, more armor and more mastery than any other back. Just reforge the haste to parry/dodge and you get a bis tank item with intel.

Posting for morons (or at least Rusttle)

1) Make a statement that is so obvious to everyone, people wonder if you're trolling or not

2) Complain about something on an online forum that everybody and their brother has already complained about

3) Make some wildly generalized statement attempting to indict an entire class, when in reality the problem is a certain sub-group of players who truly are brainless morons

4) Get flamed by people who are so tired of your brainless posts they would rather read Atlas Shrugged...in Korean...while having their eyeballs tattooed.

Two of the items in question were this and this both of which have alternatives with strength on (still pretty bad for tanking but at least not in the realms of ******* insane itemization). I'm also fairly certain he was the person I inspected who had a +1 to some stat enchant (though it could have been the mage with +60 stam gems or the DK dps in half tank gear failing in ZG).

So I'm going to add another point:

8) Items in your bag (even if you can't equip them) add to your avg ilvl, you'll still be bringing your group down by being ill equipped but at least you won't look like a moron who doesn't know which stats to pick for your class/role. And extra bonus! you can then sell the boe higher ilvl items once you've replaced them with a decent piece of armour (assuming you find a group willing and able to carry your slacker **** through enough dungeons).

I wish there was a system so you could add people you'd like to play with again (who aren't on your server), I've met some really nice puggers, but the bad ones are just more memorable.

Also, anyone else really want to make it explicit that you don't know that person when you end up with a really bad pugger from your server?
