With nothing terribly exciting going on in-game, and a lot of RL stuff happening, I canceled my WoW sub back in April. Yesterday I got an email that I assumed was another scam to try and get me to reveal my login/password. Except the message was written entirely in proper English. My curiosity was piqued, so I opened my browser and followed my bookmark to WoW's main page and tried to log-in to my account. My password still worked, but I was prompted to enter the code from an authenticator.

My question is, what all is involved in linking an authenticator to an account?

It is easy to link an authenticator if they have your password already. Just a matter of entering a serial number from the authenticator + a code from it and you are done. Getting rid of it requires logging in to your account (requiring the authenticator) then selecting remove authenticator at which point you have to enter two consecutive codes from the authenticator. I had to do this when I switched from my iphone authenticator to the actual physical one.

Time to get in touch with Blizzard support to sort it out unfortunately. I had a guildy with the same sort of situation recently where the hackers added an authenticator to their account. It takes a while, but Blizzard are pretty good at sorting it all out and re-instating stuff. My guilds bank has been cleared out and re-instated a few times now. I think we may have to change our ranks to only give access to the GBank to peeps who have an authenticator.......

Yeah, e-mailing Blizzard was the first thing I did. I'm surprised I never got an e-mail from them "Thank you for purchasing a Blizzard Authenticator..." or something like that. It's a little odd that my account got hacked a month after the last time I logged in.

When you are able to log in, you might find you've been hacked for a while and have a few new 80's!! Probably not though :)

It maybe that Blizzard finally worked out that your account had a lot of level 1 warriors who had been reported by spam numerous times.

So true, if nothing else you may find yourself sitting on a few thousand in mats. You wouldn't be the first fortunate soul to get hacked and left with a pile of goodies. Smiley: wink

I don't think Blizzard has ever done that. Personally, I don't have any emails from Blizzard about my authenticator, aside from when I lost it, and I never delete emails.

In any event, I would suggest calling to get the Authenticator removed, since Billing can't resolve this issue by email. If you need the numbers, I can link you the information. Also, you'll probably find this link helpful.

Good luck!
