Hi, i played everquest 2 before any of the expansions were released, and i have a few questions regarding pvp.
My friend and I have been playing WoW and we are looking for a new mmo that is more skill based, with a more mature community. Anyway i have a few questions regarding pvp:
Is there a lot of pvp going around end game?
If we were buying this game mainly for the pvp aspect are we making a good choice?
Are the titles hard to get?
Is the pvp gear hard to get?
Is there only world PVP?

Also, please add anything important that i may not be asking..

Thank you!

Everquest 2 is probably not the best game for PvP. There are several PvP servers, but most players are PvE. If you're after a pure PvP game you may be disappointed. If you're after an MMO with depth & complexity but with an easy play style, welcome to the club...

Edit: And the players are the most mature out of any MMO I've tried. You can actually walk from one end of a zone to the other without a single person trying to duel you.

So the PvP isn't fun or balanced? Are the titles challenging to get, or are the city raids fun? :(

Not many of us here do PvP. Spyder is the one one I can think of.

But like was already stated, EQ2 isn't really a PvP game, even though it has PvP. I think there's only one PvP server now (they merged 2 of them because of low population) and PvP was added to the game years after its release. So because of that, I've heard that it kind of plays like an after-thought (which is pretty much what it is).

And titles... are there separate PvP titles? I guess there might be, but I don't know what they are.

Maybe Spyder will come along and can elaborate a bit more. Or you could try SOE's forums. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

I think the titles mentioned are the ones you get for killing certain numbers of enemy players. So acheiving them is grinding, except you're going up against other players instead of MOBs... still, it's not anything like what I would consider "fun".

As has been noted above, the PvP in this game was conceived as an afterthought and instituted solely to appease that niche of the player base. So really, it's mostly a bolt on addition to a PvE game. It's not that the classes aren't well balanced... if anything, SOE spent too much time and effort balancing and in some cases ended up adversely affecting some of the character classes in PvE play.

The bottom line remains that this is not really a PvP game... if that is your focus your time might be better spent in a game that is designed for PvP combat from the ground up (like AoC).

Darn, this game looks really complex and fun...but if the pvp isn't fun i guess i won't be playing it, although i would like a post from someone who pvps extensively :). Im not ruling this game out yet, its just that i was ranked 67 in the world in wow arena for a few weeks so im looking for a game thats competitive...city raids, world pvp, and other
"arena", is any of it played seriously?

Have you tried the trial yet? I realize that won't give you the full experience, but you could at least get a taste of the game for free.

Well, if you enjoyed the PVP back then, you would still enjoy it now... AFAIK, it hasn't changed, but I play on PVE, so what do I know? Smiley: grin
