I'm hoping they put in the player written books in the next game update. It would be awesome to write little books and give them away to friends.

I know! We've already started plans for a library in our empty guild room, I just hope we can encourage enough people to right memoirs. Seriously I already have a working title my first book "Gafteps Guide to Necrophilia, Everything & More that you've always wanted to know about playing with the dead." - Authored by Gaftep. Providing the name fits and bypassing any filters.

well, given the simple fact that the devs said, "coming out with Game Update #52....", I'm kinda willing to be the player-written books will be coming out with GU52.

I was thinking of putting in little themed poems for Valentine's Day, Christmas, etc and hand them out and stuff. Cutesy little stuff.. Hopefully one day we can upload our own little pictures too.. How cute would it be if I could stick a little bunny in there for an Easter oriented book and hand them out? :P

I'm not looking forward to user created books. At all. Call me a negative nelly and flaunt the profanity filter all you want - we've already all seen what the determined can do with character names, guild names, character bios, etc. I suppose if they are clearly flagged as being player written /before/ you open them to read, then it won't be such a big deal. Still..it won't be pretty (though possibly the source of many lulz to come).

There has also been mention of an eventual new X2 zone that will be harder than ward of the elements, however I doubt this will happen anytime soon. Maybe GU 53.

Both the naming convention and the books sound stupid to me. They both seem like a big waste of SoEs time.

The books could be cool, but will get out of hand very fast. Abuse was the first thing that came to mind when I heard about this new feature. I hope SoE has the man power to keep it in check, which I'm sure they don't.

And as for the spell names. Instead of revamping it, they could just make the descriptions more detailed. Under the AA trees they could list out not the name of the line, but the names of the spells you currently possess.

And on a side note, I hate the Welcome Window! We spent over 4 years without it, why on earth do we need it now? Instead of wasting your time on stupid features like this, give us more zones, quests, guild rewards, ways to level, more AAs, and stop with all the restrictions.

What made EQ1 such a great game is it never got old. You were constantly working to make your character better, via quests, gear, AAs, etc. There is always an 'end' in EQ2 which is why people get bored and leave. If you want to keep us entertained, give us more attainable challenges, for the uber raiders and the casual gamers and soloers.

I would love to write books, the only problem is, I worry about who would retain the rights: me or Sony or both? eg: afaik Sony retains the rights to any character name/likeness we come up with, correct? So if I wanted to publish a story about a half elf wizard named Veloxi with a scar on her cheek, technically SOE owns the name.

I also worry about people copying my stuff and passing it off as there own.. how would you prove that? I know I sound paranoid but it's happened before.

When you copy a book, it retains its oririginal authors name. The only way someone could steal it would be to write down every single word (or copy/pasta), and then print a new book on another server. A bit of work to steal someones writings but it's plausible.
