I visited Rivervale for the first time yesterday... Follow

Yesterday on Vox I explored Rivervale and The Mysterious Drafling. I have not been playing Everquest 2 very long and so therei s lots for me to discover and yesterday I finally went to see Rivervale. It made me sad.

It is really messy, things seemed everywhere and the buildings were hard to get around, the monsters seemed exactly the same as feerott, and the halfing buildings seemed not as great as the ones in Enchanted Lands. While I was there I did not see any other player use the zone, I was there for 5 hours.

I also made a visit to The Mysterious Drafling, and it was really bad, the mosnters kept vanishing as I moved camera and some of the rooms had vanishing decorations.

I really love Everquest 2 so far. It has been fun I am 63 Tailor and level 49 after 3 months playing, but I stopped my combar and quest experience to explore level 49 before I got higher.

So I am not saying the game is bad I love it muchs! But I do think maybe after seeing Lavastorm get changed the next place they could work is Rivervale?

I was just wondering when the last time anyone went to Rivervale was.

Also I did not see many named monsters in Rivervale apart from one, and was wondering how many there were? I really like to try beat the name monsters on my own and try to get the boxs It is a lot of fun!

I was reading another forum and people talking about changing Everfrost again now Lavastorm has changed and I would just like to say that so far Everfrost is one of my favorite places, it is hard to explore with all the monsters always attacking you, it is very big and exciting. I don't think they need to change it, also the named monsters are hard to beat! Don't think that place needs a change.

There are 3 reasons to go to Rivervale:

... and of course I'll be in there very soon to do the other half of A Gathering Obsession, Part V

Apart from that, I never go near the place. Don't make me go!

Heres the problem. SOE has made leveling a character soooo easy, that one barely has time to experience all the game has to offer at each level. There are many zones at the same level and a person can outlevel those zones just by doing all the content of one. So Rivervale is a product of fast leveling. The only way you will see more people in Rivervale is if they are questing (like me) or the revamp the zone.... and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Maybe so easy to level but that is why I disabled combat 49 and went around. but Rivervale has been the msot not so nice to visit one.

Everfrost, Lavastorm, Feerott, One of my favorites was Obelesik of Lost Souls were all nice, but only Lavastorm after they changed it. Before that it was kind of boring.

I actually spent a lot of time in Rivervale, doing quests. I'm sorta a quest junkie. :)

I'm quite the same, unfortunately there were some quests there that took an insane amount of time to wrap up. Trying to spawn named mobs in particular. Almost maddening to be honest.

I used to grind XP groups in Rivervale, years ago. Near the Library was our camp. I miss the days of getting XP grind groups. I'd really like to see that return to EQ2 with the next level cap raise. I don't want to solo quest my way to 90.

Now the only reason I go to Rivervale is to kill the Avatar of Mischief.

Do you mean the music from Riverdale in EQ Live?
OMG that tune made me want to drive knitting needles into both my ears! I actually committed suicide with the only hobbit toon I ever rolled because I couldn't stand the music in that zone! :-)

That sounds like a video card issue to me. Personally I've never had or even heard of an issue like that in that zone (or anywhere else in the game for that matter)

Dont forget that EQ2 has the best way for you to go back and enjoy these lower level areas, even after you have hit your level cap.

Mentoring.

It drops your level down to that of the person your mentoring, but you still retain a lot of your power.

There are a few people in my guild who maintail alts who have all their xp off just for this reason, so others can go back to these places and enjoy them with a challenge.

It's a very common issue an any MMO as it starts to age that alot of the old zones are empty. Aside from doing them for epic quests most of the RoK dungeons and Instances are barely used anymore. I think part of the issue old zones are so dead now is because the gear from them isnt even remotely close to what you could get in other zones at the same level. The gear from solo-quests in everfrost is actually comporable if not better than gear from bonemire. If they fixed alot of the old drops and made them worthwhile you'd see alot more people of level going to these zones.

There is also the 'fact' that going through the leveling process for an alt is not even remotely like doing it for the first time.

When you already know the game, what I call "the streamline effect" kicks in and you are able to move through towards level cap much faster than a newbie possibly can. This is a function of knowing which quests you want or need to do coupled with the background knowledge of exactly where the needed mobs/items/NPCs for those quests are located. This lets you zoom through the quests without any false steps or wasted motions.

I became acutely aware of this just recently when I started over on a new server, rolling up a pair of new characters who are both zooming up through the levels in record time!

Add to this the additional fact that there are now multiple options for zones to level almost every tier and the numbers found in any specific area are further thinned out. as an example of this, I was never a fan of Everfrost of Lavastorm and as I approach T5 on my new toons, I am considering side stepping both of them all together in favor of the T5 areas in Faydwer (Steamfont and maybe even Lesser Faydark)

The game is far from empty... you just have to happen to be where the other people are!

Another reason for Rivervale being empty is a simple one. The zone is full of lag (unless they fixed it recently). Just like Neriak.

I remember trying to get a group for Rivervale, and 9 out of 10 people would refuse simply because of the lag factor.

Lag in these areas has been cured the same way lag usually gets cured in such areas.

New areas have oppened up.
Everyone isnt rolling up charecters to explore the new content
Content additions in other locations.

Sure I bet some work has been done to help ease the lag problem but most of it typicaly comes from what I just listed.

Last time I was in Neriak, which wasnt that long ago, I had a pretty easy time of it, far easier than you may expect.

I'm not sure about the monsters being the same as the Feerrott. Rivervale has the dryads, of which there are a few in Feerrott, but there are no nightbloods, lamias, halflings, treants, brambles, etc... in Feerrott.

And the buildings and building design. in my opinion, are incredible. I've completed every quest in Rivervale (except one, grrr) and the inside of some of those building still amaze and intrigue me.

Also, I have never had those issues you speak of in Tower of the Drafling. I wonder if that was just a temporary glitch.

So that was my defense of Rivervale. I will concede some of your points. The zone is packed to the brim with mobs, with few safe spots (but they do exist - and remember, the dryads start non-kos to you, so you can hang around them if you need to). A lot of the mobs are triple-up heroic, which makes it a tough zone. And not many people spend much time there. It's so easy to skip Rivervale because it's quite unimportant in the scheme of things.

Oh, and yes, the lag still exists in Rivervale. For some reason, even when I'm the only person in the zone, the lag makes my FPS kinda jumpy. Fairly easy to ignore, but annoying nonetheless.

You can usually fix most of the lag just by turning your graphic settings down by one step.

An annoying thing to do some times but hey, is the lag more annoying that doing this?

If your typical play settings are not default for one of the setting, dont forget to save them so you can reload em later.

As to the bee's flying into the walls....

wow that has to be annoying if a glitch, kinda cool if its ment to happen.

hehe
