Is it true that EQ2 doesn't play well with 64bit operating systems?

That is actually the first time I have ever heard of that my self.

Your best bet would be to get onto the tech support site and ask.

Here is one you could try, The support forum

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/forums/list.m?category_id=45

And this is another, The FAQ page.

I haven't heard anything bad about running EQ2 on a 64-bit computer. Most problems actually are from running it on a Vista operating system.

-breaks out the torches and the pitchforks-

Vista, in my opinion, is not what you want to be running with an MMO of any kind yet.

I am actually going to try and find a copy of windows XP that will allow me to use more ram than I can now, and that the basic copy of windows Vista allows [which is roughly the same amount]

Vista isnt that bad. Main thing to do is turn off the UAC. (You know, that pain in the *** thing that asks you EVERY TIME if youare absolutely, positively sure that you want to run this program, which may be malicious, even though you have used it a billion times before?)

Also, be sure to right click, and hit "Run as administrator", and you shouldnt have any problems.

Of course, XP is still better for gaming, but not so much as it used to be anymore.

Runs perfect on vista64. Just keep in mind with vista you need a little more ram but with vista 64 and ram being cheap you can have 12gb+ of ram for not a lot of money. I would suggest if your running vista64 you have at the very least 4gb ram.

I've been running this on the Windows 7 (64-bit) beta operating system and haven't had any difficulties whatsoever.

I'm running Vista 64 bit and have had no problems at all. I agree with the statement about needing a lot of memory. I run with 4 GB and wouldn't try it with less.

With 64 bit Vista you can break the 8gb barrier. I think hubby maxed his mobo at 8gb.

Im planning, if I can find it, on getting a copy of XP 64 so i can do the same

Ive got 4 now, with room for two more slots or ram

Then all i need is a stronger vid card

Maybe a few other things too......

Running XP 64 is a bad idea. It was a proof of concept at best. The thing with operating systems is you want one with a large user base. According to Wikipedia, Vista is about 25% of windows userbase and XP is still about 75% - XP-64 is WAYYYYYYYY smaller than vista 64. You could never buy an off the shelf mainstream PC with XP-64. I have run EQ2 on an XP-64 and on a vista-64 machine. Go with vista... if you have the hardware. If you don't have 4+gb of ram, than run 32 bit like a rational person. (There is no reason to open the 64bit can of worms if you don't)

Remember Vista is 6+ years newer than XP and you need more overhead to make it run smoothly. Turn off UAC, install signed drivers, everything will be fine.

I can pick up a copy of XP 64 for 90 bucks, vs $240 or more for vista 32

By the way, both windows xp 32 and vista 32 are capped at the same levels of ram and other system resorse, I was running a computer with vista on it before I went back to xp, really improved my preformance on mmos
