Is EQ2 worth returning to?Follow

#1 Apr 14 2009 at 7:52 AM Rating: Decent
I played EQ2 back when it first launched. Was really excited about it being a big EQ1 fan. I played EQ2 for about 4-5 months when I was introduced to WoW. Meeting a lot of new people and making a lot of friend has kept me on WoW the last 3 years. However with the WoLK expansion pack and the catering to "cry-baby" gamers that Blizzard is famous for, I am getting really bored with the severe lack of difficulty that WoW presents. I know that EQ2's numbers do not compare to WoW's but then again no other games #'s do. I was just looking to inquire on the community and the continued gameplay and updates for EQ2. Is the game still living strong and at this stage of its life is it worth returning to and sinking effort into? Serious replys only please, looking for useful information not ignorant flaming. Thanks, Korv.

We always take this question seriously!

The game is strong, with a good population, and is constantly growing. As a matter of fact, we get a lot of WoW refugees :) Check out the Trial forums over on the Official Site: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/forums/show.m?forum_id=2591

Matter of fact, they're having a Recruit a Friend program that (IMO) has increased the number of new players.

Come on in!

Flaming.. heh.. me thinks you might be on the wrong forum. :) We actually have very constructive and respectful conversations here.

If its more challenge you're looking for, then you're going to enjoy EQ2. Its so much more difficult than WoW, that some of those refugees that Cal referred to, have a hard time adapting. After having so much hand fed to you, I can see where it might take some time to adjust. ;)

Check out the refer a friend link that Cal posted. And, dive right in. We're here if you have any specific questions.

Welcome to Norrath!

Yeah and Hannah Montana & the Jonas Brothers are both huge... doesn't mean I want to buy their records... The size of the player pool doesn't necessarily prove that the larger game is the healthier game. In EQ2, there are countless active players and guilds stretching across all servers, with all play styles well represented. Guild groups and PUGs for whatever tier you are in are almost always easy to come by. Overall, the population is vibrant and growing.

I've just returned after almost a year away and yeah, I think the game is worth coming back to. In fact, I have found that after rolling up a couple new characters and starting fresh on a new server this time, I'm really having a ball! Even the oldest content feels fresh to me now!

A big difference between this game and wow is that on the whole, the community is far more mature. Sure, you'll find some whiners and cry-babies here just like you'll find some adults there but on the whole, we tend to be a more mature bunch

I can't say I am a returner.. in fact, I am brand spankin' new to EQ2. While the original Everquest was my introduction into MMO's back in the day, I skipped Everquest II for Final Fantasy XI, and eventually Warcraft.

I've enjoyed them all, because with each, have brought me hours of enjoyment. WoW is becoming increasingly harder to log into for me these days. I've yet to meet people, and form that community bond with others there, that which I've done on every other MMO I've played. (Still keep up with the fellows of FFXI to this day)

I'm hoping I'll find what I seek EQ2. As I sit here creating my first character, we'll see!

I find that with every expansion a little bit more EQI lore is making its way back into EQII. This makes the game way fun for me because i'm a clicker on peoples toons to see what they are wearing. Lo and behold I start seeing old lore items making their way back into EQII woot! I saw someone the other day with an SMR (Shiny metallic robe) one of 'the' most coveted robes in EQI at one point, and darn if it isn't one of the best looking robes in EQII. I can't wait to see what else the devs bring back!

I just recently returned to the game about a month or so ago after about a year off. Have to say I've been having a lot of fun and the community is still great. There is always the good with the bad, but you just have to block out the negativity and the whiners and focus on the ones in the game who make it worth playing. The people I play with are what keeps bringing me back anytime I have to take a break to deal with RL. Give it a go and make some new friends. If you happen to play on Befallen, send me a tell. Leldorin is my main, I'll give you a hand getting started again.

That is actually a bit of a touchy subject in my opinion. I rank it up there with people asking me if they will like a food they have never tried before.

What I will say is this.

I have left this game a few times in the past, and will soon be leaving it again due to events outside of my control, but every time I have come back I have enjoyed the game as much if not more than I did before.

Content is added, bugs are fixed, class issues are [sometimes] corrected [rather than worsened hehe]

Ive played other MMO's as well, but none of them for the same total lenght of active time that I have for EQ2.

Despite its quirks at times I enjoy it a lot. The group system is great, the solo system gets better each time they work at it, crafting just keeps improving. Heck, the only complaint I have about the game that hasnt changed is the blasted harvesting, and most of that is because of other players.

My advaice to you, is pretty much the same as the advice I give people who ask me if they will like a food.

"I like it, but you should try it for your self and see if you do."

Actually, that IS the advice I give people, word for word.

What could it hurt? Activate that old acount for a month, at worse your out 15 bucks or so. Or even boot up a trial account and check things out.

Given that you have been gone for so long I would actually suggest starting a new charecter, even if it is a carbon copy of one you already have, just because things have changed and you have been gone so long.
