LOTRO Vs EQ2Follow

#1 Feb 14 2009 at 1:18 AM Rating: Decent
Ok, I played EQ1 for a long time, probly 5 years. I loved the game, and enjoyed that it was SO hard. I left due to money and life changes. When I was more settled down I wanted to play an MMO again. I wasn't keen on being behind so much in EQ, so decided to try a new one. LOTRO was comeing out in a month, so I pre-ordered and took the plunge with a lifetime sub for $200. Basicly I front paid for a 2 year subscription, with the perk of keeping indefintly. I have gotten my 2 years out of it, but am bored and taken a few breaks. I cleared the resent expansion in a month.

On difficulty, how does EQ2 compair to LOTRO? I have heard people say it isn't as hard as EQ1 which is nice, as I had a rough time in that one, but enjoyed the challange. Since EQ1 I have also gotten to really enjoy raiding, so want to get into a raid guild as well. Anyway, enough rambling; so if anyone has compairison would be nice.

EQ-Live and EQ2 are completely different games that just happen to take place in the same world.

EQ2 is a far more casual style game (like LOTRO or WoW) while EQ-Live appeals to the more hard core player. I play both EQ2 & LOTRO and IMHO, if you burned through the content in LOTRO you will likely burn through the content in EQ2 since they are similar in terms of level of difficulty and demand for involvement.

Frankly, I think that if you burned through the Moria expansion in a month you either missed a lot or glossed over a lot. I've been there since the expansion launched and I'm nowhere near done yet.

It's true that there isn't a deep end game in LOTRO (very few raids) but thats because it's not the focus of the game - LOTRO is more about following the story of the fellowship in their journey towards Mt Doom.

At any rate, there is a lot more content in EQ2 since the game is about 5 years old so you'll last longer than you did in LOTRO but if your mindset is still to plow your way through instead of enjoying the ride then plow you will and ultimately you'll be out of content before the game is ready to give you more...

There is a deeper raid structure in EQ2 (based around 12 & 24 man raids & instances) but it is at heart still a casual game.

Only in comparison to EQ1. It's way more hardcore than WoW.

Actually I meant more raiding as compared to LOTRO... as I understand it, WoW has a lot of raids available.

Ah!

As for I WoW, the way I hear it WoW only has raids at the endgame, while EQ2 has raids throughout the game

Thanks for the info, but yes I want more raids. As for missing things, I completed all the solo quests in MoM. Least all the ones I can find, and I have been all over. Shrug. I started a char on crushbone, and noticed what you said. I was lvl 12 in 3 hours. Maybe I am just a better gamer than I used to be.

So lets put it this way, end game if you like raids, I have more choices in EQ2? Is it still viable to start an EQ1 char this late in the game and get to end game?

It's totally possible. XP slows down later - they sped it up in the early levels to get you moving along.

As I recall, serious raiding starts in Tier 5 (in your 40's). Then every spansion on has enough raids to keep you busy a while!
