You can't choose your crafting subclass (Scholar, in this case) until you're level 9. When you are, find a NPC tagged with "Crafting Trainer". they're outside the tradeskill instances in Freeport and Qeynos and in or near the crafting area in other cities.

When you're 19, go back to them and you'll be allowed to choose your class (Sage, in this case).

If you're just getting started crafting, I recommend doing the tradeskill tutorials, you'll get to 9 fast and learn 'most everything you need to know.

Here's our Crafting Guides page: http://eq2.allakhazam.com/wiki/Category:EQ2_Crafting_Guides

It really can't be over-stressed how good this tutorial is. I went through it "just for fun" when my main was in her 30s or 40s and was blown away by how detailed and complete the quest line was.

Their intent was to give you a foundation in crafting as well as an overview to the system while keeping you entertained and they succeeded admirably.

And as a bonus, the quest rewards are much better than they needed to be. You get paid to learn crafting AND you get neat stuff. It's a win/win!!!

When Domino was redoing the tutorial she solicited feedback from players, on exactly what was to be addressed. TONS of feedback went into that. And while I think the feedback thread is gone now, I'm almost certain several small chunks of the tutorial text are right from that discussion.

small correction. level 9, you pick your CLASS (Scholar in this case), and at 19, you pick your SUB-CLASS (Sage in this case). its always Archtype -> Class -> Sub-class. Artisan -> Class (Scholar, Craftsman, Outfitter) -> Sub-class (3 choices depending on your class).

You are correct, sir!

For the new folks, those are almost the last remnants of the Class/Subclass structure from launch :)

Ahhh the good old days... when you had to pick a class before you picked another class that led to the other class you would someday become...

I MISS THOSE DAYS! I liked the quest and sub-class quests. they were fun. at least I thought so. but I've been told I'm crazy and sometimes a tad bit masochistic, so who knows. lol. I do thoroughly enjoy the new crafting system (and tutorial) that Domino put into place. The writs are great. LOVE the rush orders.

Actually, so did I. The first one I did was on my ranger and working my way out to a bridge on the far side of Antonica to question a traitor as a lvl 9 scout provided one of the best "sweaty palms" moments I have had in the game.

The set of quests on my warden was a lot of fun too. Having to run all over Hell's half acre to find and heal folks was a blast! And some of the dialog exchanges were priceless!

I remember thinking (at the time) that it was a shame that only people who played those classes ever got to enjoy the dialog from those quests. Some of the exchanges (especially on my warden) were really funny.
