Longterm EQ1 player and Alla lurker/user, Also vacationed in WoW and Warhammer... my real-life group decided to return to EQ2 (they quit something like 4 years ago when I couldn't even run the game). First off, I am loving the game and the changes I can see in it (alternate models, not a choppy slide-show, expansion content). My main is level 9 as I type this.

I have been reading lots of forums but that's been somewhat misleading due to the age of many posts (contrary info)so I have some questions/clarifications:

1) I read the stickied FaQ of course, this comment jumped out at me:

Netherworks said "I mean I didn't even know that good and evil could guild together on a regular server. It still baffles me how you'd accomplish questing together at low levels. :) Higher levels... yeah I can see that."

Is this an issue (no one really addressed it in the FaQ)? What are the current implications of alignment?
----

To be the race/class combo I want I will have to betray. I've looked up lots of stuff so I know I can't be an evil class in a good city (too bad, but PVP server isn't where I want to be).

2) What is the pro/con of staying exiled?

-----
I understand there is some sort of dervish town separate from Haven. If my friends all decide evil is the ticket I would likely faction up Neriak and become a Gorowyn Citizen (I loved killing Sarnaks in EQ1, so it would be amusing to me to serve them).

3) Are any home city choices problematic?

-----

I've seen various population reports on the O boards (particularly for Antonia Bayle server) where most class mirrors are similarly placed on the list (i.e., coercer and illionist both near the bottom) but Templar is in the top 3rd on most reported lists and Inquisitor is often bottom 4 if not dead last. I know inquisitors were originally less healing for more dps and melee dps buffs.

4) As the game stands today, how do Inquisitors compare vs. templars?

1) there really is no "implication" of alignment. If you are choosing to play on PvE (which it sounds like on your post), then the only real choice for choosing one alignment over another is starting as a particular race or wanting to play a particular class. but with the betrayal system in place, you can have any race/class combo you want. However, it is not too difficult to go from one area to another, especially with the fact of the bells connecting more and more.

2) on PvE: pros - ummm....I can't think of any, and I betrayed regularly. cons, no home, only connected to Nek forest and TS, limited services available, you live in a cave...ok, you get the idea.

3) as I mentioned earlier, home choices are not that big of an issue. the biggest one that has any sort of "complications" is Neriak, and that is simply making it hard for good-aligned toons to buy directly from your house, skipping the broker fee. but that, more or less, is a moot point. hell, with the Magic portal to the guild hall, if your guild's hall is in Neriak, getting to the guild hall is not even a problem. There are so many ways to get around Norrath now-a-days, that there is not much keeping people from grouping and having fun together.

4) really only play an inquisitor, so I can't answer this question with all honesty. sorry.

Once you are high enough level, you can do the Maj'Dul quests and gain acceess to the housing there. At least you can have a home.

Its what i did and have betrayed a few times. Other bonus of course is the call of Ro you get.

Thanks to you both for clearing up the alignment/starting city questions.

Anyone willing to chime in on the templar vs. cleric matter?

Take this with a grain of salt (as this is what I've heard in game on Inquisitor vs. Templar):

-Inquisitor heals are faster

-Templar heals are bigger

I play a Templar sometimes, and have no issue with slower heals. You can get gear that reduces your cast time. There is also gear that increases your heal amount. So it basically boils down to which class you find more enjoyable. I dont know much about Iquisitor AA's, I do know that Templar AA's kind of suck (with the exception of the TSO line, but you will have to have quite a few AA's spent to open them up).

Try them both, do some research on each classes spell line and if you still have trouble making a decision just go with what feels right. As I mentioned you can get gear that improves whatever con the class has.
