this sucks, and you know there will be massive uproaring which is why Sony kept its mouth shut about this until it was implemented

So long as it remains useless experience potions and appearance slot crap, I'm fine with it. It's no different than people buying LoN cards/packs and redeeming them for items. However; the split second actual desirable, usable gear is put into the marketplace - I'm a ghost. That'll be all she wrote for me & Sony games.

Don't expect any "uber-gear" from this. the best we will get are fluff pets, potions, and appearance slot armor. SOE has said (at least according to their website) that there will be no game altering items. nothing to throw the game severely out of balance that will force everyone to par-take in this. as it stands (at least for now) that it is entirely optional with nothing that will throw the game out of balance. just some flavoring.

That's how LoN redeemable items started too. Now it's power buffs, complete heals, speed mods and damage shields. At first it's just fluff items to minimize the amount of players who would leave in protest at "game advantage" items, then slowly they start to be slipped in after everyone is just used to the idea and complacent about it.

Not to mention my hackles are already raised with the knowledge they purposely kept quiet about it until launch. I dont know, usually when the shit isnt going to hit the fan you would let your consumers know there is nothing to worry about. I personally am waiting for the other shoe to drop. call

As a few others have stated on the SOE feedback thread I'm just going to wait and see how this pans out. Just don't have the knee jerk attitude I had years ago when I disagreed with Moorgard. But that's water under the bridge. He is gone and I am still here LOL.

I like this game )) I'll check out the stuff when I get home from work and see if any of the 'fluff' is worthwhile to purchase. If not, eh, I'll have some more fun working on Far Seas faction.

The available things are just as all have said. It is all just fluff and a waste of code really. I do not care if they add more powerful things or not. I will achieve my goals with or without them.

I blew $60 on the Marketplace yesterday mostly out of curiosity. Bought both appearance slot sets of armor which gave two of my toons a refreshing new look. Also bought a few achievement potions. Unsure how I'll use them though as there isn't much I do that gives me a steady pace of AA. I might blow a few plat on collections and see if the pots increase what I get out of turning in those collections. However, I would still have 2 more hours to desperately go find new disco or a stray named. /shrugs

I don't see any real imbalances with these items. Its already easy enough to level to end game with little effort. So, the exp pots are doing nothing more than giving those people who want to race to End Game another little boost.

I'll be more interested in seeing what new additions are added going forward.

The achievement pots are probably more for the L80 crowd. When you are 80 all combat exp gained in immediately converted to achievement exp. So for the 80's it'd be used just like a normal exp pot; right when heading into a dungeon or something.

*ponders downing a combat exp pot and an achievement pot at the same time*

Looks that way to me. There's a lot of Chicken Little going around IMO.

About the only items that amount to anything are the adventure xp, tradeskill xp, and acheivement xp potions (10, 25, and 50%). So you can level or get AA faster and some might see that as being an advantage but really it just shows that you are impatient. A normal player will have no problem balancing their vitality between Adventure and Tradeskilling...as far as AA xp goes just mentor down and go after more names.

It's not necessarily what's being offered now that's got folk concerned. It's the potential of what will be offered going forward now that the mechanism is in place. LoN loot cards started as only "fluff" items too.

Is there any LoN item that has become "required" for the game?

Required no, but there are now items the provide in-game adventuring advantages beyond just exp potions. Runspeed, damage shields, complete heals, etc. Hell, what tank wouldn't love an extra damage shield on them? It's not just appearance, follow-pets and house items. I'm not saying that people should be flipping out and running around crying about it, but I also don't think that their concerns are unwarranted especially since we're already seeing things trend in that direction.
