Intrested in EQ2 but need a little pushFollow

#1 Nov 24 2008 at 2:08 PM Rating: Decent

I was hoping someone out there can help me with some basic EQ2 advice. I am a burned out WoW player that is currently playing WO and getting a little bored with it. I have been looking at EQ2 for the past couple of days with some intrest. Can sommone give me some pros and cons of EQ2 to see if it is a game that I like. One major thing that I would like to know is that once building up a char is there such a thing as respec ? I have always like to experment with different styles of play for each class.

Thanks

Yes you can respec your toon. There are vendors (and some claimed rewards for account age) that let you do this. Also with the new expansion release they gave everyone a free respec (though I haven't a desire to use mine).

As far as pro's and con's go, what are you looking for in a game? Crafting? Housing? The ability to solo a quest and actually feel like you've accomplished something? Instances you can run with groups of friends? EQ2 has all of that and more. As with any game you get out of it what you put into it.

The mentoring system also makes it a bit easier if you have friends (or make some) that are higher level, they can mentor down to you, providing you an xp bonus, while retaining some of thier original stats from the armor and spells (scaled down of course).

Things I sometimes play...

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"I want to be a unicorn!"
"Awww, why's that?"........
"So I can stab people with my face."

Yes on the respecs. You have 3 achievement trees (Class, Archetype, and Class II) each with different abilities and routes you can take. Depending on your class and guild/raid needs you'll spec based on need. You can respec at any time you want (sometimes for a fee). You can even get a house item for your in-game home that lets you store skill profiles so you can easily flip between a couple sets if you like.

Pros:
- Medium range difficulty as far as MMO's go (not nearly as intensive as EQ1, but also not "Fisher Price: My First MMO" like WoW)

- Involved combat (no "set it and forget it")

- More robust tradeskilling & crafting involvement and mechanisms

- More frequent expansions/content releases to keep things fresh.

- More content than you can conceivably do on a single character. Thousands and thousands of quests. Huge world. Tons of stuff to see and do.

- A largely more mature, adult and helpful community. That's not to say that you still won't run into your "l337 d00dz lol omg wtf bbq yo", but they are pretty rare. EQ2 doesn't seem to attract the kiddies like WoW does.

Cons:
- Early game largely trivial. You can solo to the cap fairly swiftly if you are a more than moderate player.

- Light on PVP. Only a couple PVP servers of varying ruleset. A con if you are into that.

- Low live GM involvement. Special events are rare anymore.

- Poor customer service interface and response times to in-game issue. Weak AUP enforcement.

My opinion, FWIW. :)

Not only that, but you can respec your tradeskill class and even change soem classes by betraying your city!

C'mon, you know you want to do it!

Thanks for the feedback. From what was said the game does intrest me more. I might look into pick it up this weekend. One other thing that I thought of that perhaps someone could comment one is server population. With WoW out there are there still a good many people playing this game ?

LOL, lots! The highest population server is Antonia Bayle.

You should pick up the trial. http://www.station.sony.com/en/freeTrials.vm
