Enchanters from EQ1Follow

Hi, I'm quasi-new to EQ2.

I started playing EverQuest sometime in the year 2000. I quit sometime in early 2003, around the legacy of ykesha expansion. I tried going back to the game a couple times, but the game was almost totally alien and the old zones I loved were empty (no groups in Overthere or LOIO).

Anyway, I bought EQ2 in 2005ish and tried it out for a while, but my graphics card sucked and after a short time I quit MMORPG's all together.

I had a 65 (highest level at the time) enchanter in EQ1 and LOVED the crowd control. One of the most fun things I did in EQ was grouping at the ledge in LOIO and having the tank pull 10's of mobs and using my AE mez (at level 20) to take them out of commission.

So, my question is the following: Is there a crowd control class in EQ2 equivalent to the enchanter in EQ1? I thought I remember being annoyed that I couldn't play an enchanter in EQ2 and that was one of the reasons I quit, but I can't be sure.

Sorry if this issue has arisen several times in the forums, or is common knowledge among the community; but I'm unable to search the forums since they require a subscription.

You want to play a Coercer it sounds like. Great choice, and lots of fun.

Enchanters from Eq1 are split into two classes: Coercer, and Illusionist. Coercers get the charm, while Illusionist's get the pet (and more illusion spells).

Things I sometimes play...

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"I want to be a unicorn!"
"Awww, why's that?"........
"So I can stab people with my face."

Crowd control and slow (two things Enchanters were always used for in Eq1) are not really issues in Eq2. Even though they are similar classes don't expect to have similar roles in grouping. Unless the last expansion changed things Crowd Control can be a nuicance IMO. I remember always getting mad when we had a done of AEers in a dungeon group and the mezzer always wanted to mez the 10 solo mobs that are bunched togetehr in a group. Just because you pull 10 things at once that doesn't mean you need CC. Only time I ever found any use for CC in eq2 is when tank screwed up and pulled more then 1 group of mobs and that always seemed pretty rare.

Yeah, there are some bad enchanters in EQ2 who don't know the difference between intentional multi-pulls and unintended adds. I play a coercer as an alt and I can tell you I've saved groups from wiping with CC too many times to count. Unfortunately like you said a lot of mezzers overdo it. I only mezz when it's an unintended add that the tank doesn't pick up or is too much to handle (in one of the tougher instances for example).
