New to Game and Question on LevelingFollow

Hi all:

I have been reading a lot lately of the new, faster leveling scheme implemented in recent updates. I am new to the game nonetheless, but my question is this. I am a player who loves the lore and questing in general, actually, I'm more or less a completionist by nature, and have heard that leveling often goes so fast that quests are grayed-out (explain please), and that you cannot go back to them.

I have also read that you can turn off combat xp, so you don't miss any content. My biggest concern is that I may level and pass a lot of the content over due to being to high a level for the quests.

Question #1: Is there a way for me to check quests in my immediate and other zones and does this information also include the maximum level at which the quest can be completed by.

Question #2: How would I go about experiencing most if not all the content, and where can I find a list of all the quests (in-game)?

Question #3: If a quest is grayed-out due to me being too high level or something else (please explain) can I go back and at least experience that content or will the quest line be broken?

I'm sorry for all the questions, but I am new to the game and I really would like to know. Hopefully someday I can be of help too.

Thank you all. :)

#1 In game, not really, although quest-givers show on the in-game map. On Allah's, every zone page lists zone connections and has links to Quest list and Quest Series pages. As far as I know there's no maximum level you can complete quests. They do eventually "grey out" and stop giving XP, but you can always finish him. The level mobs and quests grey out at scales - it's fairly quick in the beginning and I want to say some 15 levels at the top.

#2 I'm not sure it's possible to experience ALL the content on one toon, because there are five starting cities now and two alignments. Shoot, I think I could roll a new toon right now and do nothing but content I've never seen. The game is THAT big. You could, conceivably, turn off all your XP and do it all.
#2a Quests: If you look on the left Menu bar here, and find quests, you can look them all up. Or Look them up by zone. But to give you an example, the new level 74+ solo zone in the expansion just released has over 500 quests. That's a LOT of quests.

#3 Quests can be completed even when they grey out. Some will even give you Alternate Experience (commonly called AA's) for doing so. You can also Mentor down to lower level players (temporarily become their level for grouping purposes) and get XP for them.

Simply put, there's tons to do here. Tons.

edit, addendum to #2. Come to think of it, strictly speaking it's impossible to experience 100% of the game on one toon because the Freeportian and Qeynosian newb experiences are on one-way island zones. Once you leave you can never go back.

Wow, Calthine!

Thank you so much for the informative response. You guys and gals here are simply great. So, I guess there is no point really in turning off my xp then, huh? I mean, if I can always come back to the quests and complete them what's the point in turning off combat xp? Why do some people turn it off when concerning quests if they can complete the quest anyway?

Should I turn off my combat xp? Why or why not?

Again, thank you so much Calthine and all who contribute to this most excellent forum and community.

Bel. :)

Hi guys,

When would be an appropriate time for me to turn off combat xp concerning quests? I mean, if I can always come back to the quests and complete them what's the point in turning off combat xp? Why do some people turn it off when concerning quests if they can complete the quest anyway?

Should I turn off my combat xp? Why or why not?

When in a group where someone is just shy of your level range is a great time to turn it off. Sometimes for a tough instance or different situations you may not want to be mentored while fighting a mob. The easiest way to make this doesn't happen (and so you dont need to mentor and become a lower level) is to disable xp.

Another scenario would be a higher level player wants some 'easy' xp of thier own, and they would ask a friend who has a level 5 alt (possibly a crafter, or just never plays that toon), and have that level 5 turn off xp, and group with the higher level so he can go grind on easy mobs.

As already mentioned you will never truly miss out on quests, because you can mentor and still do the quest, or even go into greyed out zones and still get the AA for a level 25 named mob.

I guess what I'm saying is mentoring is the best thing ever invented.

One of the arguments for turning off XP is to get AA. You can start getting it at level 10. Some folks like to turn off ZP and get a bunch of quests done just after they ding 10.

Not sure there's really a need for it, there's tons of AA opportunity out there.
