When do you group?Follow

Hi all, I just recently started playing the EQ2 free trial. I spent some time in the old EQ and a ton with EQOA. So far, I love this game. It looks great, it runs great. I have no real complaints.

I do have a few minor questions though. So far, I've been dabbling with several different classes. I'm really enjoying Mystic and Troubador. One thing I'm wondering is: What kinds of classes are the most useful in end-game?

My other question is: When do you start grouping with others? I haven't looked too much into it in the game, but most online games have certain levels where groups start becoming more necessary. When does that happen in EQ2?

Sorry if these are old questions. I'm just curious to know a few things about another great Everquest game.

You are free to group as much or little as you want to be honest. There are going to be certain quests (Heroic, Epic) that you will want to get a group to do, or wait until you've far outleveled the quest and solo it...but if you join most any guild or even use the /lfg tool you can easily set the group specs that you are looking to join. (I played EQOA for a few years, and if you have enough patience to sit on lfg for a few hours there, you can easily do it here).

As far as class in the end game, everyone will tell you the basics. Tanks/Healers...then DPS are generally 'preferred' but a good and kind guild will take any and all players willing to participate. My motto is even if you only add +1 damage to the entire group, thats +1 damage that wouldn't be done otherwise. (Both Troubadors and Mystics are very popular and will get picked up for groups rather easily). But play what you want and get the most fun out of!

Back on the topic though, you really can solo to 80 if you wanted to, by either doing many of the numerous solo quests, or simply finding a nice challenging mob and camping it until you get so bored that you gouge your eyes out. I rather like the last option because I have a fair amount of patience, and I like to afk at my own leisure and not worry about keeping a group hanging.

Things I sometimes play...

"What do you want to be when you grow up?"
"I want to be a unicorn!"
"Awww, why's that?"........
"So I can stab people with my face."

Hi Cassess,

I have a L65 Fury that has nearly always played solo. It can be hard to find a good group that works well together. Plus I like the freedom of playing solo.

On the other side of the coin though, playing solo can have it's disadvantages. For example, it may mean you will not be in a guild, so things like renting a house and buying a horse are expensive. Plus you cannot complete certain quests (such as Heritage Quests) until they are grey, and sometimes not even then when epic mobs are involved.

Overall I would suggest that grouping becomes necessary at around Level 20 when the Heritage Quests start kicking in.

If you plan to solo heaps I can recommend conjurer class because the pet can tank for you, or the Fury because they inflict quite good damage and have a lot of healing power (vital when playing solo).

Good luck
