Ok, so i found out that i had the free month to try the game out and decided maybe it would be worth it.

well i been downloading the "patch" for about 18 hours now, and the blue progress bar is full but it still says 5 hours are left of downloading, and it was at 5 hours around 11pm last night when i went to bed.

I'd stop the download and restart it, something's hung up.

Many people have reported better results with the Station Launcher

Problem with the station launcher is that it tends to block mouse and keyboard bindings made with third party software.

Why would you need those when you can program them all in game?

I use a MX revolution and the in game key bindings don't always recognize all the buttons. Also, it's much easier to program 60+ different bindings into my Fang, G15 (thats the new one, I use the old blue one with three six button banks and a selector switch for three different bindings to each key) and MX Revolution and do minor adjustments based on the game I am playing then it is to completely adjust an entire key binding set for each and every game.

I played on a PvP server in my WoW days and playing competitively requires a player to key bind next to all of their abilities and move/turn with the mouse. Once you have trained yourself to play this way it's very hard to go back to being a clicker.

Perhaps in WoW its like that.. but, in EQ2 a gamepad is nice.. I use the Fang myself.. but, its not necessary to be competitive. Some of the best PvP's I have known in EQ2 use neither a game pad or a third party program.

As for the long patch times. That's usually your ISP throttling your download from the patch server. Latency on the net can sometimes be an issue too, but in most cases its ISP throttling. Some ISP's are better at determining what is music, video and game content than others.

The other issue I see people running in to is that they're running one of those **** internet "protection" programs like Zone Alarm, Norton Internet Prison, or McAfee's Internet Condom. All three of these will attempt to analyze every single byte of data, one piece at a time during the patching process and this can slow it down considerably because it won't let any more data through until its finished thus creating a bottle neck in your router.

I reinstalled on a new computer last week.. and from Disk #1 until the Character Select screen, the whole process took about 1 hour and 45 mins. So, 18 hour patching is not an issue with the launcher.. there's something else in your environment causing the slow down which you might want to troubleshoot first.

I play on a PvE server here, I don't even duel in EQII. I was simply explaining why I use external key bindings as opposed to internal key bindings and why I had an issue with the beta patcher blocking the software.

Switching to a complete key binding setup has a huge learning curve and once you have adapted to it, it's very hard to go back to clicking.
