A couple of questions about subscription..help please?Follow

#1 Aug 06 2008 at 10:10 AM Rating: Decent
When I first started playing EQ2 I got a trial period (signing in with my username from EQ1), and then moved on to getting the game. As I don't have a credit card, one of my sisters ordered the subsription and I guess she chose just the game without any expansions. After some time we had a break from the game and quit the subscription.

Then, a couple of months later I tried logging in just to see if it worked, and it did. And then I discovered that I had got access to things I couldn't use before, like AA points and zones like BBM and Gfay. I was just happy about it so I didn't ask questions, and I guess the cost of the game was automaticcaly subtracted from my sisters card.

But today, when I tried logging on, I just get this message: "Thank you for your interest in EQ2. Unfortunately this offer is available to first-time players only. If you would like to reactivate your account you may do so here (where they mean by "here" isn't explained). Your original Everquest 2 game discs may be required" (I never had any game discs?)

If anybody has got a clue on what happened, kindly explain to me :)

Anyway, I guess I'll have to resubscribe to the game, and so I was wonder what I need to order and how much it'll cost? I wish to keep my AA points and Faydwer access. Do I have to buy an expansion pack in adittion to the game, or is the game included in the expansion?

Thank you for your time. Sorry if I am asking stupid questions.

btw, if it is of any interest, the icon I click to start the game says "Eq2 Play the fae". The login screen says Rise of Kunark on the top though.

Oh, and I just discovered, on the Station account management page it says that my subscription to EQ2 is closed and the last thing in my payment history is from january...

...anybody?

If you don't want to read my whole post, or don't know the answer to it, then I would be glad just to know which expansions I have to subscribe to and how much it'll cost. Is there any other way to pay for it besides a credit card, btw?

Ok, I sorted some things out on my own by reading some more on the forums (I probably should have read more before I started asking questions... Oh well.)

So, if I've understood it correclty, I got two months of free play because I had an existing account and was returning to the game (or something like that). And now that time is over.

And, if I got it right, then I should buy the RoK expansion because then I get all the rest of the game as well. But do I still have to pay the cost of the game in addition to the expansion? In that case, I think it does turn out a little expencive.

I'm not sure what you mean there, the expansion *is* the game. You'll get 5 years worth of content for one low price! But you will still have to subscribe.

Oh, I guess I misunderstood some of it. I thought that the subscription was getting the game, just without any expansions and extra stuff. But it makes sense if what you're saying is that you buy the game and then subsribe to it for the amount of months you want to. Am I getting it right?

Sorry if I'm being a bit slow, I've stayed awake for too many hours

ooh, thank you! :)

Will I have to download and re-install the game to get the free game time?

I now see that ad's for EverQuest, not EQ2 :( Maybe it'll work anyway.

And no, you wouldn't. If you qualify your account is already flagged. Log in, if you qualify you're good to go (and will have a heck of a patch.

Oh, if the exe you click to start the game says "Play the Fae", that's a trial version.

What I suspect happened is you came back during the EQ2 part of the Living Legacy promotion and got your two months free already. Now they want to hook you in :) However, you were supposed to get the whole game through Kunark free with that....

I'd download the game and install it, getting rid of that trial thing. When you subscribe you should find it all there.

Or, heck, contact customer service and ask :)

Thank you for helping!
I tried re-installing the game, I downloaded the installer (called eq2-us.zip) from the webpage but it won't work :( It opens in winrar as EQ2.exe when I double-click it, but then when I try opening that file it tells the that "The archive is either in unknown format or damaged" ...

Anyway, if I manage to get the game installed properly (I did send a mail to customer service as well, hopefully I'll get an answer in not too long), do you mean by this:

That I've got the game and the expansion packs through that free period of time? So that I'll only have to subscribe to play the game?
Oh, and no, that wasn't me in that thread.

Never mind, I managed to install it :)
I just downloaded the installer from somewhere else on the site (looked like the same file though) and then it worked. So now I've subscribed and hope that I've gotten the RoK expansion...

Now I'll just have to wait for 9 hours and fourteen minutes, and then I'll find out :P

Heh. The good news is, the time remaining estimator is notoriously innaccurate. But it's still a big download.

Here is the boat I'm in:
Background: I came from one year of playing FFXI followed by one year of World of Warcraft. I am still a subscriber to WoW. On a boring maintenance Tuesday I stumbled across this free trial page. I LOVE DROW so I wanted to give it a swing. I find I like EQII. I want to subscribe to it. When I tried to pay for it I was led to a Station page that wants me to buy a $30 Station pack or $15 for just the game. I just want the game. I don't need anything elaborate nor can I afford it since WoW is my main game and I'm still paying for it. I saw that one payment option is to buy a prepaid card. That is how I pay for WoW. I prefer the prepaid card payment method. I went to Best Buy. On the shelf next to the only prepaid EQII card they had in stock were a bunch of EQII games for sale.

Here is my question:

Ah, with the trial, didn't I just download the game? Like, a three hour download? Why is it for sale in the store if it can be downloaded through the free trial offer?

Also, I noted the pictures of the game on the box look, well, light. I started off an evil race. Is that why the game looks so dark and... blurry?

If I want to play EQII do I have to erase the trial I downloaded from my computer and buy the $30 game from the store? That would be a $45 investment to start playing. I want to play this and WoW. But I can't give EQII the devotion I give WoW. That is probably not going to be worth it. I was under the impression that it was only $15 to start playing.

When is EQII's maintenance day? I want to play EQII on Tuesdays when WoW is offline (I'm a morning player).

Does it have regular expansion downloads or store bought expansions?

Was the trial I downloaded some basic form of the game without expansions or was the trail THE GAME?

You're going to have to buy the box (or download). Pay for a key, at any rate.
