I'm new to fighters and doing some crafting for my new SK. On the forums the discussions seem to revolve around bucklers and tower shields. Tower shields bad, bucklers good. That's the general gist. What about kite shields? They have are lighter than the tower and almost as much mitigation as the tower and 2-3 x the buckler. So I'm not sure why the kite is not the shield of choice.

actually, for an SK, the kite shield is the shield of choice. most of the debate you are reading is in regards to berserkers and guardians who have an AA line that requires bucklers and will allow them to increase their riposte and double attack rates if they have a buckler equipped.

So why not just use a tower shield with an SK for a bit more mitigation?

well, its really your call, but the Kite shield stats (especially player crafted) are STR/STA/INT, where as the Tower Shield is STR/STA/AGI. since the SK is a fighter/mage hybrid, their spells' damage is based off of their intelligence, so a higher intelligence, the more damage their spells will do. The Tower Shield (can't remember is SKs can even equip them or not) is better designed for Guardians or Berserkers who are not going down their Stamina tree for AAs.

Great advice. Thanks so much for clearing that up.
