choice between prov and weaponsmithFollow

I have alts doing all crafts except provisioner & weaponsmith. I was reading on the Station boards that weaponsmiths are useless. I did experience finding better weapons from quests and drops than I could forge at lower levels. Is the weaponsmith awesome at high levels and worth the grind to get there? I whacked my provisioner to create a new character, but I used my provisioner ALL the time. I've never been a weaponsmith and am intrigued by it. And I know a bunch of new recipes were just added. Can someone with experience as a weaponsmith steer me relative to this crafting choice? Thanks.
