The most important things for EQII are memory and video card, and you should be fine. I run the same vid card with 2gb RAM and XP. 4gb is what EQII geeks recommend with Vista.

GEEKS? US??? You say that like it's a bad thing...

Seriously, those stats look fine. You should run smooth at high settings everywhere except the same places that trouble us all...

(Areas like Kylong Plains and Qeynos Harbor have their own issues and give evetryone's computer fits!)

QFT.. For the past 9 months or so I was playing on Vista with only 2gb of RAM and a 256meg nVidia video card. When I moved last month, I only brought my hard drives and memory with me and installed them in to a similar system that my girlfriend owned. I was amazed at how much better EQ2 ran on what seemed to be the exact same system. Then it struck me.. I was playing on XP again and not Vista.

In lesser words.. 4gigs of RAM is mandatory for gaming in Vista.. and 8gigs is recommended.

OK, thanks for your replies everyone. The only other question I have is about XP and Vista...it sounds to me like because I'm buying my computer so I can play EQII, I should stay away from Vista, because eventhough I will most likely purchase the computer i posted and have 4GB of memory thats a little ridiculous that you should at least have 4 GB to run EQII on Vista.

EQ2 runs on Vista fine. But when I got my new box I went XP and 2GB just to save the expense.

I run EQII on a Vista computer with only 2GB. It works perfectly, apart from two weeks of sheer misery because Vista kept blocking the game, this after over one month of no problems. Thanks to tech help here, I was able to get rid of the problem. Since then, not a single problem.

I play on Vista with 2gb of memory. It runs fine my graphics card is what holds me back from bumping it up. Vista has plenty of little tweaks and options to make it run better. For example turn off UAC. Turn off all security items and your game will run 100x better. If you are buying the pc from gateway etc. Then you will probably not have the option for XP. Most hardware does not have the drivers for XP only vista. Also a tip with Vista get the gaming update its optional but search for it on the microsoft site.

Your definition of "fine" is probably a lot different than mine. Vista is a memory PIG (in fact, it acts a lot like Apple OSX) and with all the extra GUI baggage and the bolt-on shinies running, your resources will be very slim if you have less than 4MB of ram. Can you run a system with 2MB? Yeah, but you can't run it well.

Bad idea... you'll leave yourself open to random attack from all over the internet. Of course the bottom line there is that it is your system... and if you don't mind being overrun with virus and Gawd only knows what else, then I don't mind...

Neither part of this statement is true. Vista has been such a huge goatfu... ummm... well, such a mess that Dell, Gateway and most of the smaller companies are still offering XP if you want it. And most if not all hardware companies (like Nvidea and ATI) still offer XP drivers. And barring the manufacturers themselves, there are several good driver archive sites that will let you download any XP drivers you need for free.

If you are going to go with Vista, this is probably a very good idea... Also when they do release a service pack for Vista it should help things loosen up a bit.

jashah, I'm sure you meant well but I find a lot of mis-information in your post.

I would recommend that you get the Intel E8400 dual processor instead of the quad core. EQ2 only runs on a single processor so there is absolutely no advantage to a quad over a duo. The E8400 is a 3.0ghz processor while the Q6700 quad is only a 2.66ghz. And being a Wolfdale(Penryn) it is more powerful than the Kentfield, which is what the Q6600/6700 series are. Just make sure that you get a motherboard that can support the E8400.
