I played EQ for two years prior to EQII's release. I played II for a while until WOW was released. I've had fun with WOW.

My main complaint has to do with pvp. WOW is based on two factions, Alliance and Horde. As the game matured, Blizzard has added incentives to participate in pvp battlegrounds. I went there and have enjoyed it to a point. I like the competition. But Blizzard has created a game where one side has an overwhelming advantage. I doubt that my faction (Alliance) wins 20% of the matches. Maybe less. The reasons are debates to death, but the imbalance exists. Switching to Horde won't be a choice for me, since beating an underpowered opponent won't be any more fun than losing all the time.

How does pvp work in EQII? Is there much participation, and are there serious imbalances in it? I see Good, Neutral, and Evil race factions. Do they fight each other? Any feedback is appreciated.

I'm not a pvp junkie, but balanced pvp can be a blast.

We need to get Spyderbyte in here, he's our resident PvP junkie :)

I can tell you that there are dedicated PvP servers. On the PvE servers PvP is restricted to dueling and an Arena system that seems woefully underutilized.

What advantage does Horde have over Alliance in PVP other then better skilled players? From reading your post a non wow player would think Horde have some sort of major advantage from the get go when as far as I know they don't?

Far as PVP goes in EQ2 I don't know much about it. I can tell you though that unlike wow it wasn't designed for PVP when it first came out. In fact SOE swore it would never have PVP until the past year or so. I can only imagine certain classes will be overpowered in PVP.

I would say WOW is probably more balanced in PVP then EQ2. I can also tell you I have played horde alts and lost alot of BG's to twink alliance toons also. You get into a BG where the enemy has a premade with twinks just forget about it.

EQ2 PvP is just a random free-for-all with groups staking out the major travel spots and corridors. It really stinks. Not worth doing..... IMHO.

Groups jump solo/duo players at the griffon towers or go hunting for them.
Lots of fighting at lower level spots like Darklight Woods Faire where there is no guard protection. Low level groups can and will attack higher level players who are solo.

To be good at PvP you need to lock your xp and get as much AA as possible. Uber equipment and a good group help alot.
