System Specks for EQ2Follow

#1 Apr 04 2008 at 7:21 AM Rating: Decent
My Wife and I are looking to make the jump to EQ2. I know are systems are very outdated (a hole 4 years old). With that I’m going to build us two new systems with assistance from my favorite computer store Newegg (shameless plug). Ok… Heres the question will I be able to run the game average, good,or best based on the follow CPU, GPU, and amount of RAM.

CPU: Intel Socket 775 Dual-Core Clock 2.66 FSB 1333 L2 cache 4Mb (this chip is a 65nm so I plan on OCing it to 3 to 3.5GHz)

GPU: EVGA 8800GTS (G92) Clock 670MHz Mem Clock 1940MHz 512mem local Supports DX10

RAM: 4 GBs

Also if you see room for improvement or recommendation please submit a reply. As always thank you for taking your time to read my post. Can’t wait to login and play!!!

Beats the PANTS off my system, and my system runs it just fine.

Running Vista as an OS you'll be fine, running XP as an OS you won't need more than 2GB of ram.

The rest of the specs are fine although you might consider a pair of the 8800s running sli to give you a GB of vid ram.

Yeah, a system like that would handle above average EQ2 visuals and still run smoothly. "best" is a tough call, as maximum settings for EQ2 is really meant just for screenshots and make most systems chug, but you'd definitely be able to make it all look good. Better than most.

Thank you all for the feedback on this topic. Over all it looks like the speck will fit the bill. OldBlue, Good call on the SLI, but these will be budget builds.

Off Top:
We are casual players (coming from EQ1) that like to quest, trade skill, and explore. How would a Pally + Fury fit that play style?

Either a fury or a warden is a good choice for any duo since both druids (in this game) are not only front line healers, but also output the best DPS of any healing class. Personally, I'm partial to wardens (mine is about to turn 80) but fury is a fine class. (I have one who is in his upper 40s)

Rather then Pally though, I would suggest a zerker since it would give your duo a much higher DPS output and the pally's heals are superfluous considering the quality of druid heals..

The druid will also serve as "bus driver" since they get SoW as well as a nice selection of group ports.

If you are going to clock that up to 3.5 make sure you have a serious water cooling rig. 45nm are much more temperature friendly to overclock.
