Help with choosing a classFollow

#1 Mar 24 2008 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
Im coming over to EQ2 from playing WoW and prior to that FFXI where i played a hunter and black mage respectively. I was thinking of being one of the following classes and I just want to make sure i'm going to be able to have an endgame and my class isnt going to be one of those that gets ignored becuase of overpopulation/uselessness. So with that said any input on the following classes would be nice :D

-Conjuror/Necro (im not sure which id rather play but a friend told me they were pretty unwanted endgame)
-Fury
-Brigand
-Defiler
-Templar(i mostly want to know exactly how hard they are to level.)
-Wizard/Warlock

Mostly I'm just looking for a class I wont need to struggle to find a decent guild/party with when I'm looking to do instances and whatnot and doesnt have huge issues with leveling solo.

Bottom line... every class can solo well and every class is wanted in groups/raids.

So play whatever you want to play because if you choose a class based on thinking that someone else will want them, you won't have a real connection with the character and will never enjoy playing as much.

This game is pretty much grind free... don't start off by creating a character that won't be a joy to log on to every night.

Being a new player on their first character (half-elf brigand), I know exactly where the OP is coming from. As it was already answered, any class is capable of soloing.

Yeah, I know that sounds like a cop out answer. But it is also the truth. Your Achievement experience (AA) lets you tool your character in a way that goes far beyond just your class and race. The same can be said for your level based special ability choices.

If you look at your extra ability choices, you should notice that they tend to fall into two categories. Some focus more on helping a character solo while others focus on helping a character be more effective while grouping. In the end, it's this area of the build that you need to adjust to fit your personal playing style.

Not to say that you still can't do the other area as well, because you can. Also since you can pay to retool your special abililties (and even get free chances with your AA), you have a very large margin of error to work with as you're searching to find the perfect fit for your current character.

And for the record, I personally know players who can solo rather well with the following classes that you mentioned...

Brigand
Defiler
Necro
Warlock

I'm sure the rest can do it as well, but my person experience doesn't know much about them.

There's always the option of having several alts to mess around with and try new classes with.

I've been toying around with an Erudite Berserker, High Elf Templar, Gnome Illusionist, Sarnak Defiler and a Kerran Brigand. None of them have hit level 20 yet (19 Defiler is the highest.), but I've slowly been leveling each of them trying to decide which I like the best.

As it stands, I'm really liking the Defiler and the Illusionist the best.
