How to raise guild status to get that good mount?Follow

#1 Mar 10 2008 at 10:02 AM Rating: Default
Now that I know more than I ever thought I needed to know about getting the good looking mounts.

I have to ask, How do I convince my guild we have too many none contributing members in the guild and it is slowing us down on our way to the big 80, Or maybe this guild is more on the friendly side and isn't in a hurry to get to 80?

We have around 125 unique members and I always see the same 10-12 players on. And they all do writs. Even have a contest from time to time.

So what is the nice way to say we need to get rid of the dead wood? Or should I look for a new guild and start new Chars to help them get to 80.

I guess its more of a re-evaluation of my goals and see if they are in line with the goals of the guild and make a decision.

Looks like I talked my way through that one, still give me your opinions please.

Thanks.

Because some members don't appear to openly share the same focus (or desire) you do doesn't necessarily make them *dead wood*

And a question, are you one of the members constantly grinding out those writs?

In any case, here are some other ways you can help the guild achieve the goal of leveling;

Besides the writs, members can turn in the status loot dropped randomly of of mobs all around Norrath. Each of the four factions will accept a different kind of loot item and will reward you at the turn-in with both personal and guild status.

I have known and even been in guilds where members *bought* portions or even whole levels by purchasing stacks and stacks of these looted items from the broker and then turning them in.

Another method is to organize groups to complete Heritage quests. These will net both guild and personal experience for each player who completes the final turn in. They can be very profitable (in terms of guild XP) and always result in a nice item that can be worn or placed in the home. (at lvl 78 I still wear my J-boots!) Most of these quest lines are tedious but not really difficult so they are perfect for a group activity. Especially if everyone is together in voice chat! And as a bonus, as I mentioned, they end with receipt of a *legacy* item brought forward from the original EQ. ("J-boots", "manastone", "fishbone earring" and "bag of sewn evil eye" come to mind)

Again, I have been involved in numerous campaigns to "ding the guild" during which one or more groups went out and ran through an HQ. These all guild groups are a fun way for guild members to have fun and play together while helping the guild level.

And finally, there are various named targets who when killed, will give up guild XP and these are always worth going after.

So rather then cleaning house, why not begin your campaign by trying to organize the guild members to do more... to give a little something back...

Go pro-active... start some threads on the guild web site, organize some events and see what happens... you may be pleasantly surprised!

According to my math and the way I explained it only 10-12 players out of 125 are even playing.

(And a question, are you one of the members constantly grinding out those writs?)

Yes, All 10-12 ppls playing are doing writs HQ's and turn ins, so I guess that includes me.

If over 100 ppls aren't even playing I highly doubt they are visiting the Guild web-site. The guild leaders are already having contests and creating ways to build the guild.

These are all great but the math says that 100 ppls not playing and this is dividing everyones efforts by 100 for guild status. And no I not mixing up the unique playes versus characters in the guild.

I will however start a thread on the guild web-site and see what happens.

Thanks

Dead wood clearing?

I advise you to walk down that path very carefully. I am assuming from some of the questions that you are asking that you are relatively new to EQ2 and the guild that you are currently active with. It very well may be that some of those non-active members are the ones who put in the work to progress the guild to it's current level. (check their guild status and you'll see who has put in the time)

Kicking the non-actives can be political mess so I would take that route as a last resort, since they're not preventing the guild from growing.

FYI, OBD mentioned that guilds in the past have purchased the status loot drops to sell and earn status for the guild. That little trick has been addressed by SOE. Now a days the guild will only get status from those items that are at or above the current guild level. So if you have level 20 status loot items and your guild is level 30, the guild will not get status from those items when you sell them to the faction merchant.

Good Luck

I still wish there was a cash option for the unguilded or low guilded players to get the mounts. I've wanted a nightmare since EQ1. Almost 2 million in personal status accrued, but my guild isn't and likely never will be of the proper level requirement for me to be able to purchase one. Make it 25% or 50% more expensive or something if you don't have the guild level for it, but give us /some/ way of getting it that doesn't include abandoning our small guild.

You can easily go into the guild HUD and determine when the last log in was for each and every account. But even armed with info that tells you that (lets say) 100 unique accounts haven't logged in for an entire year, I still wouldn't be of a mind to boot them from the guild. At least not without trying to contact them to find out how they feel about it!

It is more than likely that some or even most of these folks have left the game and plan to never return. However, people change their minds and besides, I would hate to disappoint any remaining folks who had to leave for whatever personal reason and come back only to find they've been evicted!

How would you feel if you kicked one or more veterans who upon returning from service in Iraq or Afghanistan, log back in back in only to find they've been booted from the guild...

I can't recall what the formula is for total guild members vs. guild XP earned but irrc, the formula was changed a while back to add a cap so that big guilds with low active member rosters didn't suffer quite as badly as they used to.

Does anyone here know the current formula?

BTW, Volstrum - I was aware SOE had changed the rules regarding guild level vs. credit for turn-in and IMO it was a bad change! The system was already graduated so that lower level items reaped a lower reward - turning in a T1 item gave you 1/5th the reward that a T4 item did so you would need 5 times as many to get the same reward. But I guess they saw an issue and chose to change the rules.

(And ultimately it's their game so it is their call!) :P

I can only think of one good change SOE ever made concerning the guild status and that was getting rid of the limited patronage system.

Apart from that, about every change seems to have been a step back for smaller guilds, reducing their growth speed.

Granted, I'm in a very small guild, but the people working on the writs constantly are getting a bit demotivated when they see the writ rewards being reduced, the item reduction,...

It's a royal pita now.

I just thought Coldheartid would like to know that before he went to the broker and spent the last of his coppers in hopes of buying the next level. You still can, you just have to make sure that you buy the correct tier;)

Just thought anyone reading this would like to know the final outcome.

Well I finally left the guild when there was only 3 of use playing all the time, and joined a much more active guild at lvl 75, on there way to 80 and dinged in 3 weeks. Got the Warg with purple-ish saddle and blue eyes and hoofs.

So, It wasn't about changing the guild I was in. It was about finding a guild with the same goals as me. Now if I can only get this guild to start getting better organized at raiding. lol
