Here is a post that I made on our guild web site. I thought that all members of Allalkazam should know this as should all EQ2 players

Gary Gygax just died in March 2008. I guess he finally ran out of hit points. No, he wasn't a House member nor was he an EQ2 player that I know of.

However, he was the grandfather of every dungeon and dragon game and variation out there and certainly could be considered the father of Everquest since he invented the game Dungeons and Dragons.

In his lifetime, Gygax was the creative mind behind not just the Dungeons & Dragons gaming system, but a host of other fantasy role-play systems such as Dangerous Journeys, Lejendary Adventures, and more. He lived and worked as a game designer, novelist, editor, businessman, gamer, and husband and father.

Over the years Gary has received numerous awards for his contribution to the gaming industry including entry into the Origin's 'Adventure Gaming Hall of Fame,' tying with J. R. R. Tolkien on GameSpy's '30 Most Influential People in Gaming' list in 2002, as well as serving as the Premiere Guest of Honor at Gen Con in 2007.

He was a kindly, fun guy who wanted to be known for his integrity, fun and playfulness and for his contributions to the gaming industry.

I will leave you with the the way Gygax wanted to be remembered, as his words illustrate,

"I would like the world to remember me as the guy who really enjoyed playing games and sharing his knowledge and his fun pastimes with everybody else"

Frankly, I, for one, will miss him
