Welcome to EQ2. Hopefully, you will find the experience less frustrating in the future than you have so far!

To the best of my recollection, the dead soldiers are not near the barricade but are a bit further out into the zone - head away from the barricade where you received the quest and towards the next archway. Just before you reach the stairway on your right that leads to another park area (the one with the treants, deer, goblins and spiders) the dead soldiers should have spawned right around you.

Be careful because updating the dead soldier will spawn a creature who will be aggro to you. Kill it and return to update the quest.

Good luck and once again, welcome!

OBD's right, there's a couple of dead soldiers scattered in the yard past the barricade. Just don't go through any gates and you'll be fine. As I recall one is down on the left near the rock cliff face. And yeah, you're gonna get jumped.

I saw a post on ten ton hammer in the last day or so (after responding to your post here) stating that since the last update (GU42) the soldiers weren't spawning at all and that inability to complete the quest was holding up island progression.

If this is indeed the case, it's a known bug and you can be sure SOE will have a patch worked out soon. In the meantime, you can read that thread by following the linky!

You are right. As of last week, the quest is bugges. I started a new character, and the bodies were not there. There was a lot of chat traffic on this topic as well. I reported the issue, but got no response. The bug will prevent you from advancing the beginners quests which allow you to get your starting gear, and to kill the necromancer at the end, who is causing the trouble in the Queens Colony. This is annoying, but not a real problem, given the abundance of low level quests available in bot Quenos and Freeport. I would advice you to pick up the quests that are available at the Queens Colony (the ones not associated with this bugged quest). Level until level 8-9 or so (bashing the skeletons near the Last Stand treehouse is a quick way to do that) and then jump on the boat to Qeynos/Freeport. Note that bashing your enemies/MoBs at the island drop equipement items regularly that are better than the stuff you get as a reward for the bugges wuest, with the exception of the nice weapon you get as a final reward. Dont let this stop you from playing ther game. It is rich and nice to play, and worth this initial frustration.

Enjoy,

As an alternative to leveling all the way to 8 or 9 on the island, you could leave there as early as 4 or 5 and do just fine in "Forest Ruins" and "The Caves" or even "The Peat Bog", moving on to "Oakmyst Forest" around lvl 8 or 9.

The content offered in the Newbie Gardens (combat zones located adjacent to the housing neighborhoods) is all top notch. Plenty of great quest lines and lots of mobs to kill.

The islands are fun the first time through and are a helpful tool for teaching the brand new player basic game mechanics. But the "real" game is even richer in both content and detail and by staying on the island till lvl 9 you lose the "need" to do the initial content in the newbie gardens.

Back in the day, the island content was exhausted by lvl 6 and we had no choice but to move on! You kids today have it soooooo easy!!! ;)

Old Blue, didn't you go to Iraq or Kuwait? I haven't seen you around for a long time. Welcome back from wherever you were. Zoo

ummmmm that wasn't me.

Kindle was deployed to the gulf (he's career navy) and he's back now safe and sound.

I've been here all along, I just haven't been playing EQ2 for about a year - I've been in Middle Earth and have only just come back to Norrath.

I desperately need help! I'm completely new to this (or any) game. I actually am required to play it as part of a class. I have no clue what I'm doing! I accidentally left Qeynos very early on and now I'm in Oakmyst Forest. Before Oakmyst I was in Castleview Hamlet ..I think. So I have like no experience, I'm only on level 4 and I keep dying and don't know how to complete either of the two quests I have right now : Glowmyst Juice and Regrowth. Any help with the quests or the game in general would be greatly appreciated :)

Since you are brand spankin' new to EQ2 and to MMOs in general, the best thing you can do for yourself is to re-roll your character and start from scratch. At lvl 4 you will not have acquired anything worth keeping so just delete the character and start again.

When you do have another character created, start the game on the Queen's Colony (the good newbie island) and follow the prompts the system gives you as far as what to do and where to go.

The beginning of the game is designed and structured to teach you the basics of game play and hold your hand as it walks you through the first 4 or 5 levels. By missing these tutorials you are not only trying to tackle content that is above your level (and therefore more difficult) but also trying to play a game you haven't yet got the tools to play with!

The tutorials at the beginning of the game will teach you;

how to use the UI
how to equip armor & weapons
how to fight
how to cast spells
how to talk to an NPC
how to use the bank
how to accept and complete a quest
how to loot a dead mob
how to join or form a group

...and many other useful things.

Good luck and have fun!

Old Blue has it right! Read every bit of the tutorial as you work your way through Queen's Colony and you'll be fine :)

What class are you playing it for?
