Hello,

I have a few questions about the updater/patcher for EQ2.

I first started to download this game 3 days ago however when the first install was downloading I was also messing with some other things on my computer (not the brightest thing to do, I know) and caused it to corrupt the file. As you can imagine I deleted/uninstalled that attempt and started fresh (was already about 9 hours into the process, doh).

Anyway, I am now on my second attempt to get this game up and running. The thing is, I have read that most people say it will take roughly 10 hours to download and install the game, well I know that will very depending on connection those who I have read about were on 2 mb/sec connections. I am on a 1.5 mb/sec connection and so far am 27 hours into it (meaning that it has been downloading/updating for that long, not taking breaks).

Many of the problems I have encountered have simply been with the updater hanging on a file so stop and restart and it goes along fine again however I have come across another problem.

The biggest problem that I am facing is that even when I get to the point where it says "update complete" it still continues to ask me to download again. I have looked and it keeps downloading the same file.

In all of the time I have been doing this I have only seen the "play" button show up once and when I clicked it of course took me to the game, I just got through most of the character creation when I lost connection (not the games fault or even comps, my wifes cat knocked the router down and it came unplugged). Since then it has been doing the same thing over and over again (downloading the same few files, takes about 1.5 hours per try) and well I am just about at wits end.

I am a long time fan of FFXI but have been wanting to play this game for a while as well. I gave it a try at a friends house and liked it and was hoping to add a little more variety to my gaming time.

Any suggestions on how to make the updater work better or any information on alternate methods of downloading patches would be greatly appreciated. I have never had any problems like this before with any game (infact no programs at all have had this problem before) and it is driving me a bit mad to have one computer that isn't able to be used because it's tied up with this updating business.

Thank you in advance, I await your replies.

If you have Vista, don't forget to run the game as administrator as you will get stuck on the launchpad.

If you do not, perhaps you can delete the file it is trying to download constantly? Not sure just how that would affect the problem as it's very odd that you have been able once to start the game and now you're stuck on downloading a file.

Sorry for not giving more information.

I am running windows XP pro 32 bit.

Comp is as follows-

AMD 6400BE at 3.4 gigs

2 gigs of OCZ plat (PC6400)

Asus M2N32 SLI board

GeForce 8800GT 512 (G92 core)

Drives are 2 250 gig WD SATA 2

Both Windows and all of my drivers are up to date.

Every time I start the game exe. it does its check and slows down a bit at 49-53%, 62-63% and 97-99%. It downloads a few files (which takes about an hour and a half) and then continues on to say "update complete". Most of the time however it will want me to download more files which are the same ones that it just downloaded. I have now twice gotten the play button, the last time I made it into the game and other then it taking a little longer then expected to load I had no problems.

I exited the game (no real time to play anyway right now)and just to see if it would restart I launched it again. Sure enough it is back to slowing down and downloading files.

I think I will download it on another computer just to see if I end up with the same result. As it stands now I will be unable to play because I simply can't wait for an hour and a half for a chance to get into a game when my time is already limited (not to mention the frustration factor that comes with it, I usually am trying to relax when I am dealing with a game).

I hope that I am able to resolve this issue and play, the game is good, I have seen that so no issue there but maybe they could fix the updater a bit. From what I have been reading I am by far not the first to have problems with it.

Hamunaptra,
I had a problem close to that, one of my files kept ending up corrupt and I went on the SOE website and used their instant message support. They sent me a file / files to download and it took care of every thing. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the information.

I am currently downloading the game on another computer, if I run into the same problem then I will try what you have suggested.

I should know how this will turn out in a couple more hours.

My only concern is how well the computer that I am downloading it on will be able to play the game. I am sure most setting will be on "low" but I can live with that.

Good day to you.

Well I have gotten the game to work on my other computer.

It plays the game reasonably well too. A little odd when it is pretty much a workstation, socket 939, cpu at 2.24 gig, 1 gig of ddr and onboard graphics.

I will mess with my gaming rig some more to see if I can get the game working on it. I am happy that I have been able to at least get into the game and play now.

Thank you for your replies, good day to you.

It's almost always video drivers or lack of memory.
