What class to play?Follow

#1 Jan 29 2008 at 6:06 PM Rating: Decent
What class should a new player play in EQII? I am looking for something fun and that can solo if need be. Also a class that could be easy to learn for a new EQ player. I play FFXI, Eve-online, WoW, and SWG and I am just looking for something new to waste my time on. Thank you.

Well, my husband would say "Don't be Templar." Lousy DPS. The best is probably one of the pet classes. Maybe Necro or Conjuror.

You've played enough MMOs to have established a pattern. What classes did you play before and did you enjoy them or were they a part of the reason you left those games?

Basically, your options boil down to one of four choices;

You can be a tank, a healer, a DPSer or play a support character.

If you want to stand at the front of the group and go toe to toe with the mobs, pick a tank.

If you'd prefer to take on the mobs from the side or even from a distance and just carve them up with huge damage totals, then a DPS character is for you.

Maybe you are a caring kind of person and your idea of a good time is to stand back and keep your group mates alive. If so then a healer is perfect for you.

Or maybe you want to be the go-to guy. The one who has the best buffs or de-buffs. If so then a support role is the right choice.

Which one among those is not a question any of us can answer. But you'll never enjoy the game as much is you choose a class because someone else told you to play it.

But the good news is that you can try a few out and see which you prefer... that might be the very best "waste of your time"!

and btw - the classes in this game are so well balanced that ANY class can solo. It's just a matter of learning your character's strengths and playing to them.

Any class can solo but still some are better then others. Templar and Inquisitor are probably the slowest soloers IMO.

If you played a warlock in WOW then you know they were very easy to solo with. The same applies to EQ2. The necromancer is the easiest to solo of all the chars I've played. I can normally take up to 3 levels higher than me and playing the char is easy. Send pet..dot..dot..dot..heal pet...life tap

Necromancer fear blows compared to WOW Warlock though. You do get a root though which has a 3sec fear on the end of it.

I found the Dirge a bit hard to solo, but I've only gotten him to level 17 so it might be easier later. He doesn't hit hard and has low HP. Mainly support class IMHO.

I have several char- zerker, warden, wizard. They each do equally well alone. The zerker always runs low on health, ditto for the warden, but they can heal. Interestingly I haven't had problems w/ my wizzy, but that remains to be seen(Still leveling)
Bottom line: pick a class that interests you. I joined WoW with a friend and couldnt get intersted until I found a Troll Mage. Give your Char. a story, and 'role-play' (not like the wierdos), but keep it interesting. Enjoy
