Coming back to EQ, havent played EQ2Follow

I played EQ1 from Beta until the arrival of EQ2 (loooong time) in which I retired from gaming...so yeah its been a long time. I'm seriously considering coming back, but wanna give EQ2 a try. Any suggestions on classes an EQ2 newb? Or tips? I played a SK and Beastlord to the level cap. I did enjoy the BL more, however, I noticed there is none in EQ2. Thanks for any info you can share!

I just joined EQ2 a day ago and I must say I love Necromancer. I find it to be a good starting class, but you should pick something you enjoy playing.

EQ2 is not like EQ1. Treat it as a different game and you should be alright. I played both, and while EQ1 will always have a place in my heart, I really enjoy EQ2 much more now that the majority of the kinks are worked out.

The classes are a bit different from EQ1. For instance, a Monk or bruiser, is considered a tank class, not DPS. There is no kiting ability in the game, so if you plan on trying a necro or druid, know its not the same.

Each class actually has something to offer to groups and raids. There is no best class to play or be. And any race can be any class. Some you may have to betray to get there, but it gives more variety.

Once you hit level 10 you can start earning AA's just like in EQ1. There are two branches, one for your general class (Druids/clerics/brawlers/scouts, etc) and one specifically for your class. You can tweak your character to offer different things depending on where you spend your points.

Lots of solo content has been added. While EQ2 still offers more for groups, you do not need to have a group in order to level. You also do not need to have the "perfect" group in order to achieve anything.

Read the quests, play around with your options under Alt O, and enjoy!

Thanks for the info! I heard it was vastly different, mostly being nostalgic for us old EQ1 players, but thats fine. It has been a long time and I'm looking forward to it!

Necro is a good class, however they are also a dime a dozen. IF you are looking for something unique Necro is not the way to go. Hard to tell you what class would be best for you since nobody knows what you want to play. Closest thing to a Beastlord in Eq2 would be the monk/bruiser. Monk/Bruiser IMO is alot more fun to play in eq2. Unlike EQ1 you get new skills every level, as does every class in the game. To me that makes a melee class more playable. I couldn't stand a warrior in eq1 because I never had nothing to look forward to when leveling except maybe some discipline with a long reuse time and short duration maybe.

Just my opinion though. There are free trials available to test out what you want to be.
