I just got eq2 and i was supper excited to go back to Norath. i was pumped to see what qeynos on steroids would look like and to revisit a lot of the familiar areas and see how they have been effected but so far the major cites have come off like huge suburbs and i haven't seen anything i used to recognize around the town or the surrounding area doesn't really remind me in any way of eq one also i haven't see very many people around im wondering if im missing something about these cities or if there is a major castle i can go into or something also im wondering if a'lot of the zones i used to know and love from eq one are still around like black burrow, crushbone, oasis ect. im also wondering if low level characters are a rarity because it looks like everyone who plays rushes to a high levels and there arnt enough fresh players to fill there spots. I say this since i really haven't seen very many people in qeynos.

OH, there's lots that familiar. The Mage's Tower is in South Qeynos, with some stores I'm sure you'll recognize. Sneed's great great something or other grandson runs the general store in Qeynos North. Antonica is what used to be Qeynos Hills and part of the Karanas, and yes, Blackburrow is there and Holly Windstalker's ghost will be happy to kick your butt for old time's sake!

Thundering Steppes is what's left of the rest of the Karanas. Remember, the moon blew up and we suffered through the Shattering, so things aren't necessarily familiar. We have Runnyeye, Crushbone, Rivervale, the Feerott, Everfrost, Dealthfist Citadel, all kinds of exciting things. Here's a Zone List. Oh, we just rediscovered Kunark!

People aren't in the cities because they are our adventuring. Try joining some world-wide channels to hook up with people (right click on your chat window for options).

also keep in mind it's 500 years later. Things are the same in some ways, but a lot has changed! To put it in perspective, take a small european town built and lived in in 1507. Now rush to 2007. Some may look a bit familiar, but someone from 1508 will have a hard time comparing the two.

As for things that look almost identical, I think for the first time SOE got it right with Kunark. Field of Bone is almost right out of EQ1, except bigger, better, badder. OT is a little different, however the area where Howling Stones can be found is identical. I still miss the rhinos dropping from the sky though =). All same mobs you find from EQ1 there in EQ2. It was quite breathtaking.

As for lower levels, I know a lot of people who have lower level toons, so they are out there! Also, if you know anyone who already plays, there is a mentoring system so that anyone of any level can group together and do stuff.

The cities are completely different for the most part. They had to pretty much rebuild the cities from scratch after the shattering. I personally thought the expansion EOF had some really good old school looking zones.

Yeah, like they said above, after 500 years and a cataclysmic event I wouldn't expect to recognize much. It's MUCH bigger. But you'll find some familiar names and landmarks in the city proper.

Shoot, we have a QUEEN now. If you hang out by one of her statues she'll eventually give a speech!

If you think Qeynos is different, try starting a toon in Freeport... I was never able to even make it into the teens with toons in Freeport. Its so alien compared to the EQ1 zone.

Most of your time (after level 10 or so) will be spent in Antonica and then Blackburrow. Blackburrow is a really neat zone. At first you won't recognize anything but once you start exploring you will find little things that fire of brain synapses of recognition. At level 20 you have two options if you want to stay in the area. Stormhold is a wonderful dungeon with plenty of named mobs who are quite loose with master chest drops. Its not really solo friendly so bring a good group of friends. The Thundering Stepps is designed for more solo play. You should enter at level 20 and it will get you to level 30 before you move on.

You can even level to 30 without even leaving the city of qeynos. There is a massive catacomb system under the city. Look for some large drain caps around the town. They will allow entrance to the Qeynos sewers (remember them??).

Bascially, EQ2 cities and zones are the "crack" version of EQ1 areas.

Anyone why the water looks metallic instead of like real water? Is this an act of robots polluting the water or did the graphics designers try to hard to make it realistic.

Oh, video settings are in the Options menu (Alt-O), and there is a setting for water animations.
