I hate the launcher and the launcher hates me!Follow

Anyone have any "pro tips" for the launcher? Just picked up/subscribed today (All-In-One including RoK), so 4 hours of waiting around and making sure it doesn't cancel itself for no reason doesn't seem too much fun!

Darn, nothing more annoying than clicking "Download" over and over again because it says "Download canceled". I figure this is probably a Saturday night thing unfortunately!

Once you have hit cancel download, it keeps pushing it back to cancel even after you hit download again. There are also several bugs with the launcher that will make it hang on decompressing a file sometimes forever, and once it does that, even if you kill the window, it will leave "Launcher.exe" running in processes. Better yet, you CANNOT terminate the process, windows is unable to stop it and even if you try to reboot, your computer will probably hang for about 5 minutes before it shuts down due to this process that can't be stopped.

rebooting in safe mode, running the launcher from there, and patching seems to work out. Also there is a bugged folder that hangs it too sometimes. Deleting the "Archtypes" folder in the Legends of Norath\Data folder fixes that. The launcher just recreates the folder when you patch.

Let the fun begin!!! at least they only patch like 3 times a week. I LOVE spending 30 min to get into my game now!

10 hours is dependent on various things such as internet connection. For example, I reinstalled RoK all in one from scratch recently and even with deleted directories the whole process took no more than 2.5 hours. On the other hand, I installed it on a co-workers computer two nights later at his home, and I had to leave after 4 hours and it was only 50% complete.

People might also want to try out the new launcher which is in beta. I've noticed that the "Vista must be Admin" issue is less confusing for new/returning players because part of the setup is making the launcher itself runnable as Admin. Besides, the functionality of it is really nice!
