Okay, now that RoK has been out for a few weeks, its time to rank the original EQ2 and its expansions!

Bub's Top Five:

1.) Original EQ2 release - This is my favorite since it is the one that got me hooked. Qeynos and the dungeons underneath it, Antonica, Stormhold, Runneye all have wonderful memories stuffed in me brain.

2.) Rise of Kunark - Despite some tough and tedious soloing, I have come to the conclusion that this expansion is SoE's best. The zones, the quests, the need to cover every inch of every zone is neat. At first I was a little miffed, but recently I have grown to enjoy my time on Norrath more then ever.

3.) Kingdom of the Sky - This is the only expansion that I actually got a chance to raid in. Some of the quest lines were huge. I still need my Awakened trinket to get into Deathtoll, but I digress. Th overall layout of the island zones was incredible. Dragons, lizards, Sanctum of Scaleborn, etc.. Overall a wonderful expansion.

4.) The Desert expansion - This is where expansions start slipping. This expansion caused me to look elsewhere for entertainment. There were some good quest lines and mobs, but overall, this expansion did nothing for me. I never even ventured into the half of the zones.

5.) Echoes of Faywder - This expansion did nothing for me. Since I spent my EQ1 days near Qeynos and Freeport, the nostalgia effect did not "wow" me at all. Spent my time in the Loping Plains and Sanctum of Scaleborn exping and finaly dinging level 70. The Fay were just, well, gay. This also was the start of serious inflation since tinkering and transmuting were introduced.

Remember, this is just my opinion. Curious to hear what everyone has to say about the various expansions!

The original zones are still the best imo, although mostly after a lot of changes to the mobs and battle system. That's why I'm going with this order:

1. Rise of Kunark. Most likely at no.1 because it's the more recent one but it is indeed one heck of an expansion.

2. Echoes of Faydwer. Still a very good expansion in scale and content. Sure, I'm still sour about Unrest being such a hard instance, should have been multi-lvl instance as they did before but still. I like the fay, it added a lot of colour to the game. (which was always said to be a downside to the graphic area, too many shades of brown and grey)

3. Original EQII release. Like I said, great zones, but I've never cared for Qeynos in EQI, was more of a Freeport player back then (starting zones that is, Commonlands,... that's where I spent my first days in mmorpg's) but as I just prefer the good side that's a bit tough now. In short, they were good zones, but the battle system and mobs at the start were just too unlikable.

Much improved over the years, but not at launch.

4. Deserts of Ro. After levelling in the Commonlands, the Ro zones were always next for me in EQI. Unfortunately it was never as compelling as later expansions, very group focused too. Only two real zones, lots of smaller zones in it but apart from the Living Tombs and the Poet's Palace, none that I like.

5. Kingdom of Sky. I still don't like the zones, much too limited in size, I haven't even been all around the Bonemire, did finish a couple of instances (HoF and the Den) but no real interest in them. The only thing I really like about this expansion was the AA system. A very good addition to the game! Quest lines weren't interesting at all imo.

1. rise of kunark - mostly because it gets farther away from the "group only" mentality the game launched with.

2. echos of feywder - a little more casual friendly than the rest of the game, but the purple faries did absolutly nothing for me. made the game seem kind of...gay.

3 the origonal release. was a blast untill you hit 20 or so and had to start spending more time begging for a group than playing, like all the other group orientated games that came before it.

the rest of the expansions and packs did nothing for me. i really dont like the button smashing spam fest that passes for fighting much, so i never really bothered to get a character much past 30 or so.

it just keeps getting better and better the further along they get. i wonder when someone will figure out that revamping the older parts of the game to be more casual player friendly will entice more people to spend time im places that are currently totaly abandoned right now, like the majority of the low and mid level dungons.

i also wonder when some genius will figure out EQ1 is sitting on a treasure trove of empty zones that could be revitilized by doing the same. graphics already drawn, code already written. just a little mob tweaking, and rewriting a few, if not all, the quests and they could launch a casual player friendly game already twice as large as WoW, without touching their precious top end game to boot.

baby steps i guess.

Not going to put it in any particular order cause that would require numbers and I hate those.

EQII - Poorly though out launch that entirely misjudged the direction that the next generation of MMO's would take. Intensive graphics for machines of the day, didn't help either. Goofy crafting, goofy level progression, lots of zoning, lots of grouping. Rough start.

DOF - Great 1,001 nights feel. Great quest lines, mediocre raiding which always felt like it was raiding with slapped on lore. Small, but not bad.

KOS - AA's were nice, raids were a little more solid, more solo content, more zones. Rehashed dungeon schemes were awful, any which way you cut it is was a cheap move. Zones were small and not much in terms of quests, enough to get you to level and keep you busy though.

EOF - The fae, perhaps the crappiest playable race ever added to any MMO ever. New 1-60 content great for keeping the game fresh, old lore locations back, more AA's and deities. Traveling was a pain in the *** but other than that pretty solid.

KoS - slip nip snizzle ****. More quests than you can shake a stick at, lots of HUGE zones, more AA's, great quest rewards, harder mobs, nice playable race. Very solid expac.

#1 Classic. Its really hard not to rank this one number 1.

#2 Echo's. I loved pretty much every zone in this expansion minus Butcherblock. I absolutely HATE BB just because its ugly, looks nothing like the eq1 BB, and its a pain in the rear end to get around in. I am still waiting to get to experience Unrest. OF course now that I am high enough nobody wants to do it because of Kunark.

#3 Kunark. Other then the insanely hard solo mobs I am overall pretty pleased with it. Alot of fun solo quests (I have finished like 60ish just in Kylong Plains), neat looking zones, etc.

#4 KOS. I disliked this one because it was such a pain to get around in. None of the quests seemed all that entertaining. I suppose introducing AP's was nice, but that really doesn't have anything to do with my feelings towards the actual zones themselves.

#5 DOF. What a boring expansion! The zones was boring, the loot was boring, and the quests was boring. I don't think I ever found a piece of loot in this whole expansion that was a upgrade to me (between a paladin and a necro). In fact out of all the instances I did I think I have seen 1 whole masterchest drop out of several named killing. I don't think I ever seen a ornate drop at all.

I gotta agree. They really hit it out of the park with RoK.

Every expansion has improved almost a hundredfold over the last. I'm really very impressed with the dev team. Good job!
