Heroic Opportunities:Follow

#1 Dec 04 2007 at 3:04 PM Rating: Decent
Anyone actually use those anymore? I do it out of habit, and now and then I get the Hero's Armour, which is nice. But ultimately, if I didn't use it anymore (soloing that is), it would make little difference.

Time for a change or am I missing something?

I use 'em all the time. They work with my "routine", so I get like a free extra buff or hit for doing what I'm doing anyway.

I use them all the time. It's free extra damage or a stun or a buff for using skills that I would probably use anyway. I certainly can't think of a good reason /not/ to do them.

As a side note, I've seen some people theorize that using HO's on named increases the likelihood of better chests dropping. I'm not sure I subscribe to that theory, but some people live by it.

Yeah, and you harvest more rares if you wear a robe with green on it :)

Oh no, not green but red I believe.

And you first have to run around the node clockwise! That's vital.

An HO is indeed a bit more damage, and it's all done automatically after all that time, it's just that it's so little, almost pointless at our levels. (edited to add: my regular melee attacks are higher lots of times than for instance the HO's)

I hardly ever use them anymore... They used to kick *** in the low levels but now they have fallen out of favor with me.

But only on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and half a day on Saturday.

I've been using them, but my toon is pretty low level. It seemed to have a big effect when I first got it, at what level would you guys say it gets questionable as to whether it's worth it?

Generally, once you hit the button for it an ability, or several depending on level, will start flashing. You click one of those and another ability(ies) will flash, and if you hit both and they aren't resisted it will result in additional damage and a stun, if I understand it correctly.

One thing that kind of bothers me is I spend more time looking at my buttons than anything else when I'm fighting. I guess I have to get to the point where I know what they all are so I don't have to look.

An HO is a sort of combo that leads to an extra attack, heal or other event.

As a monk, my HO solo will lead to three possibilities: sky cleave (single damage), crushing anvil (AOE damage) or hero's armour (mit increase against normal damage, the rare event).

It's a three step combo, you first start the HO by clicking the ability that starts it (don't recall the name of this, you get it at lvl 5), then you'll see symbols in the circle, you should have at least one ability that is flashing, this means that these abilities will continue the chain, after the first one, you should have to use another (again, all possibilities will be flashing) which finishes the chain and you get the result of the HO.

Usually two regular ones and one rare event that even at my lvl is still interesting.

Group HO's are quite interesting, done properly you will do a fair amount of damage, or get a good group heal. If you want to focus on this anyway, I've never bothered with it and in all my groups we all just clicked away really. The end result will differ depending on who starts the HO and who continues it, not everyone will have an ability to continue it.

I can't recall exactly when the HO's became a waste of time (apart from the rare event), but it's been like this for some time. Half the time, my melee attacks are better. Which is a shame, perhaps they should include a way to improve the HO's.

Not as much as I used to. When soloing as a necro it seems like I pull aggression off my pet when I use them.

I never use them. I ran out of space on my two hotbars, didn't feel like bringing out a third, and never really used them anyways.

I use five hotbars now, or rather four and a half. Although I could reduce it to three perhaps, after all my buffs don't have to be on one. But it's easier imo.

There's no way I can fit all my attack spells on only two bars.

Respecced to chi btw, very handy spell to have! Altered the rest too a bit and I must say that things go quite smooth now.

I just finally added a third hot bar. I like to have as much space on my screen to see as possible and fought long and hard to keep only 2 up at one time. /sigh

Glad you like Chi! It will come in extremely handy when you use Peel, especially if you are raiding. If you use Chi before Peel you reduce the recast time in half Smiley: grin

I also remembered why I never went for Chi before. They altered it, at first there was a rather serious downside to the spell as after the 30 seconds of increased everything, the spell then decreased everything by the same amount for the next 30 seconds.

That's changed luckily.

Ofcourse, trying out EQ again isn't helping my EQII playing time Smiley: grin, although I seriously messed up. I petitioned to have my 52 paladin restored, but in my stupidity I created a new paladin with exactly the same name. Apparently that overwrites all previous records Smiley: cry

Ah well. (I got help within two days, very swift actions for such a request imo)

I found putting the HO starting in a macro with my most commonly used spell that advanced the HO was easiest. Doesn't take up any room on my hotbar and that way i use it automaticly, because i did find that i stopped using it too at higher levels.

Oh, and i have 6 FULL hotbars, i've resised pulling out a 7th. Wizards have too many spells/buffs/AA abilities.
