Hello everyone at these fun forums that first got me looking at FFXI and then Wow!

If it isn't too much trouble, I'd just like to discuss a little bit about what I want, and if my impression of EQ2 is right. I've read the faq of course, and a hundred more. But sometimes these things don't get the right information across. Thanks!

I've been wandering again for an MMORPG that I'd like, andI feel a bit let down so far. I mean, WoW is a fun game, but it's honestly a game.

I don't mean that insultingly, I don't play for a long period of time normally.

It's just that I like the open worlds, player housing, and non cmbat roles in RPGs.

That is, for example, I've played I don't know how many hours downloading mods and playing around in Morrowind, creating spells, items, characters, and houses. But I really never made any ground at all in the quest lines.

I love making mods for all my games, and customization and depth win me over tremendously. I don't expect mod making in an MMORPG of course, but customization always seems so lacking...

I tried FFXI, but it wasn't right, far too group based. I love an occasional group, or to join one without too many strings attached at random, but I can't set aside hours just to grind. I loved their cities though, fantastic, and player housing and shops that I honestly missed most in WoW. It was a much deeper game than I first realized in plot and cities, and yet in gameplay shallow.

Whereas, WoW was very fun, with some nice lore, but it just doesn't have customization or any of the roleplaying things I enjoy. I'm not exactly an RPer, exactly, but I like the feeling of it. It was a great game, as I've said, but not at all deep enough.

Vanguard...well, the game actually killed my computer(Well it overheated at the time, my fault for bad positioning, but that's not the real problem!)

Really, it had the customization, but the cities when I played just didn't do it for me, underdeveloped I felt. I loved the races and classes.

So, pardon my rather rambley post, I hope, but I have to ask: Is this game as customizable as it seems, as deep, and indeed, perhaps as fun for soloing and small groups?

And, to get ahead of myself, I've been looking at some classes and races, and I find I really like the Wood Elves, Half Elves and Kerra, as well as Furies, Paladins, Dirges, Clerics, and perhaps illusionists/conjurors. It seems race is not nearly as important as it is in FFXI, but how are the classes in terms of fun. I'm not a raider of the type to care about the "best", and indeed, its for the feel of classes that I most enjoy playing. But is there that same inability to actually level some classes because of stigma(Dragoon at one time that I played FFXI, and Dark Knight too.)

Pardon again my rather long post, but this game seems so nice, and the people the same, that I can hardly contain my excitement. And for that reason I'm cautious, because disappointment would lead me to another period of wanderlust.

Thanks again, and again sorry!

I guess I don't know what you mean by customizable. There are lots of UI mods, but game-playing bots of the type I've heard in use in WoW are a bannable offense here, lol.

There are no class race limitation on leveling. Well, I suppose you could argue that Templars can't solo well, but that's about it. The game supports a huge variety of playstyles, you're only limited by what you choose to do or not do!

My advice is download one of the Trials (I'd recommend the Play the Fae, but both are good) and give it a spin! Now is a great time to start up, and we've just had an expansion (and a new race!), and the expansion package includes everything to date for $40.

Aye, thank you!

I've already downloaded play the fae, just have to get some account things resolved!

As for customization, I guess I mean housing/furnishings

as well as racial appearance and class differences.

If we call it an RPG, somethings that are more rp than g, if that makes sense?

Fluff spells even attract me, much more than giant raid dragons that I'll likely not bother with. Though having them never hurt!

Thanks again!

I think you'll find plenty to keep you busy.

Player housing varies from modest one-room efficiencies to elaborate 3 floor mansionesque setups. Thousands of items can be placed in them from books to beds to paintings to interactive stations to magic items to pets and on and on and on. Wall and floor types are also customizable to a point.

As for adventuring, just about anyone can solo up to the cap if they want to. While group and raid content is the way to go for the most powerful gear, there is an abundance of solo content around for folk who like that road or who don't have a ton of time. And thats if you want to adventure at all. Some people dedicate themselves to the tradeskills. Smithing, carpentry, cooking, alchemy and so on. There are people who are high level, end-game crafters but who wouldn't survive 50 yards outside of the city walls.

Customization in toon appearance is pretty good too. With Betrayal (alignment change through a long series of quests) there are well over 200+ possible race/class combinations. Then you have all the different colors, sizes, features, styles, etc. therein.

Your right in that race isn't a huge deal. Each race has certain advantages and disadvantages, but in almost all cases any deficiencies can be corrected by gear down the road or by spells/abilities as you level. Each class gets a set of fluff spells they gain throughout their careers too. Tons of lore. You can spend days just reading in-game books and talking to people.

Let us know if you have any more specific questions. Hope you enjoy your stay.

House customization? Oh my. Most housing can be customized from the ground up, literally. Walls, floors, ceilings can all be changed, for a fee, in Qeynos and Freeport. Add to that the hundreds of items carpenters make for houses - furniture, paintings, tapestries, lighting fixtures, rugs, vases. etc. and you have a huge array of possibilities when decorating. Also, many collection quest rewards are house items.

Within each race the possibilities for personalization of appearance are also considerable - hair color and style, eye color, facial shape, height, etc. permit us to look the way we choose, not just cookie cutter look alikes.

I play primarily solo with all of my gals. Some do better than others but all succeed eventually. Since I've never been concerned with how fast I level this is fine for me.

Hope you stay with EQII a while. It's a fun game. :)
