"Everquest II: Classic"Follow

Strolling through EBGames this morning I saw "EverQuest II Classic" for $6. I thought to myself - I enjoyed the Trial of the Isle (which seems to be gone, now) so why not try a month for $6? By MMO standards, that's cheap... And After 3 years I'm getting yet another case of WoW burnout.

So ... I picked it up. I know - I'm a huge risk-taker ... waging $6 like that.

Anyway.

I'm worried ... I'm guessing that "classic" means that it doesn't come with any of the now-many expansions.

Is there a better way to cheaply (because I'm house poor atm) try EQ2? Will I be missing out on anything significant if I start with this box and (maybe) add to it in the future?

I just don't want to be playing a gimpy old version of a game when there is a shiny new version that everyone else is playing ...

The new expansion rise of kunark is supposed to come with every expansion and every adventure pack upgrade, its like $40.

You could download the free trial from their website which gives you 2 weeks access. You won't be able to play the Sarnak's as they are the newest race from the latest expansion. But it will still give you a feel for the game. Be warned, when you first start they only give you the faes to play with, but once you log in for one of them for a bit it will unlock the other races to try out. Also be aware the download is rather large, it took me roughly 10-11 hours to download it with a cable modem when I did it a few weeks ago.

Does that mean that if I start with this $6 box, I can just pay $40 and have everything?

Will I be missing out on anything substantial as a newbie with the $6 box I bought?

I guess it depends on how far you get with the Classic game.

At level 10, you're able to get Alternate Advancement points, which aren't included in the classic game. And I think the original game you could only get to level 50? Maybe it was 60, I can't remember now. But with Classic you'll have access to all but 3 starting races and even though Faydwer is level 1-70, a lot of folks that are leveling up alts still do it in the old world, so you wouldn't necessarily be alone.

But if you can afford the 40 dollars, you should get Rise of Kunark. It has all expansions and yes, you can start off with your classic game and then upgrade when you get Kunark.

Wow ... SoE. .. . . .

I used the key that I just bought and I got zero (0) free days because I already played a trial.

Sent in an email to billing support. I hope it's a bug and this isn't intentional.

It would pay to buy Kunark. Every quest, discovery, named kill, and collection you do gives AA past lvl 10. So lets say you get to level 45 and decide to upgrade. Everything you did up to that point that could have been AA will be out of your reach as there is no way to go back and do them.

Now that is bunk, let us know how it goes.

I just picked up RoK digital download and it does come with the original game plus all expansions to date, DoF, KoS, EoF, and RoK. I believe it also comes with the Fallen Dynasty adventure pack.

EQ2 is a decent game, I am enjoying RoK so far. SOE can do things so mind numbingly idiotic that it makes you gasp, even after being jaded by years of it. Get past that though and it is a solid game and a very great community. Nice change of pace from WOW.

You'll need to create a new Station account to re-play a trial! Good luck!

It's probably intentional and understandable, they can't allow a person to hop around from one trial to another and play for free that way. So they limit one free trial per account.
Make a new account and enter the key and all should be good.

The key (which I PAID for) has now been consumed. The 30 days are included free game time, not a "trial" (in my opinion, anyway).

SoE has yet to answer.

Oh... did you add it to the account with Classic on it? You can only use a 30 day offer once, it's only for new accounts.

I never had anything before. Just the Trial of the Isle. Upon hitting L6 in the Trial, I was told that I needed to buy the game to go any further. I bought the game (albeit a year later) and now it seems like I bought nothing ... I could have used the same key on a fresh account and been playing right now.

Anyway thanks ^^ for the phone number. I'm out of town tonight but I'll give it a call tomorrow.

Sounds like a boo-boo to me.

Without scrolling back up and reading, did you give it your payment info? You do have to give payment info to activate your account, you just are not billed until the first 30 days are up. (And you can cancel before that time if you fate it and not be billed.)

If you used the same account login and password, then SoE will not give you another 30 days free.

You played 2 weeks for free. Then you bought the original everquest2. If you registered the game with the keycode and your account password and login, then SoE considers it an existing account. (I am assuming this is the case).

Therefore no free 30 day trial for you. Its the same reason why people who have had accounts for 4 years don't get a free month of billing with each expansion. SoE knows they have us by the short and curlies.

But I never had the 14 days free as it is right now.

I had the Trial of the Isle, which let me play as many characters as I wanted for as long as I wanted with a cap of L6 and being stuck on newbie island. This is the first time I paid anything for the game.

Fun part is that they don't have my by the short and curlies ... all I lost was $6.

As I said above, you'll need a new account to re-play a trial, whether what you've played in the past is the game, a trial, a buddy key of any sort.

A "trial" marked account, is a trial marked account, regardless of the trial, how long it was, how many days you got free, etc.

Now, you *should* still get the regular 30 days free, *IF* the software that you bought supports that, and you've never activated that account for that game in the past. You'll need to take that part up with SOE. Have you heard back yet?

I haven't heard back ... The chat app crashes every time (tried on my Mac and PC in FF and IE). The email I sent them I never got a reply. I can't call on the phone cause if my girlfriend (who is usually in the same room) hears me talking about another MMORPG while I'm playing WoW she's bound to start some pointless argument "you already pay for an mmorpg blah blah"

The box I bought said "includes 30 days play time" right on the box. I don't equate that with being the same as the trial. Perhaps I'm wrong, but to me they seem like two different things.

If you think your going to keep playing the game, I would just pay the 40 bucks and start a new account and get 30 days on the new one ( may have to create a new email some where but thats probabaly not to hard). Makes more since to me.

But if your looking for a free month of gaming, more power to you.
