I saw an alter in someone's room, what are they for? I heard you can buy stuff from them, is that true? What is making an offering? I guess I need a whole tutorial on altars...hehe

Alters allow you to sacrifice items for favor points with your chosen god, which give you the ability to purchase temporary buffs and other effects ("blessings and miracles") from them.

How/where do you get altars? Can you have more than one or just the god you worship? Can you change the god you worship?

Alters are player made or you can obtain one by completing the quest series that you embark on when you choose your deity. You can have as many as you like, even for different deities, but only the one for your current deity will allow you to sacrifice items to it for favor points. You can switch deities - its a process that involves denouncing your current god and starting the quest-line for a new one.

Also, altars come in different qualities too. You get two altars from completing the deity quests, the second one is better: meaning it requires less faction to buy the "miracle spells".

The handcrafted version is better though, but most likely quite expensive.

The miracles you get at the highest level are quite good, and after the third (or was it second?) quest, you get a pet that will boost stats. ie: not useless like most pets are.

Evil or good characters are not able to join every deity, you might have to betray to get the deity you like. Also, you can switch deities and still keep the cloak you got from another deity. Heck, in theory you can gather all the cloaks. (those are actually very good items to have, definitely worth getting the group for it)

How do you switch deities?

Go back to the NPC who gave you your current deity. There should be an altar near them. Click it and you will be asked if you wish to renounce your faith. You are then free to choose a new god.

If you switch deities can you no longer use the blessings and miracles of your previous deity?

Nope, you won't be able to use anything but the cloak if you got it before switching deities.

Thanks for the great info everyone. One more question...If you denounce your Deity to worship another God then go back to your original Deity, do you have to redo all the quests again?

I'ld say yes, but I definitely do not know for sure. That's a good question actually. But it would be logical to assume yes, you've forsaken your god, so it would be logical that you have to prove your worth again. I know I'ld react like that if I were god.
