The most expensive to raise is probably Transmuting, which requires breaking down loot and rare crafted stuff for Adornment parts. Tinkering requires a buttload of raws, could cost you a lot. Both the secondary tradeskills are costly to raise, in that they take much longer than regular tradeskills to max. It's often said you can do them fast -or- cheap, but not both.

There is no "most profitable" tradeskill profession; if there were we'd all be doing it! Making money in EQ2 crafting is more about knowing and working your server's market than what's in your recipe book.

That being said, from what I've read on the Official forums, Tinkering is probably the least profitable profession. The coolest stuff a Tinkerer can make is Tinker-only.

Hmm that is very true about tinkers, but I'm also going to have to say after thinking about it abit that the most profitable tradeskill is server based and would most likely be the least used one and what character classes there are the most of. I have been doing pretty well on Vox with my armorer but I think the economy is just crazy because of being a station exchange server. But I sell low level pristine plate pieces for 1-3 gold each. And the supplies to make them are easily found in ant. also not sure about the prices on other servers but 1 blackened cluster sells for about 30 gold.. is that about the same as other servers?

I know this post is fairly old and almost dead, but I would like to chim in.

I recently tinkered from 0 to 80 in 3 days and made about a 3 plat profit doing it. I adhered to the techniques as discribed at the eq2.eqtraders.com web site for tinkering. I had to harvest very little in some of the early zones to get started then sold everything to the local vender. This financed the next tier, rinse and repeat. Yes I did find a few rares along the way, sold them and keep the speed up. In the T8 area I found several silicate loams and they sell for about 3.5pl on my server. So, I is diffacult to say exactly how much profit but somewhere around 15plt total profit form this adventure.

Leveling in tinkering is much faster then the tradskills.

I didn't have time to use and enjoy any of the items I made till I got to 80 and when back to make some for fun use.

Just my 2 cents

Carpenter (level 80) makes good money selling boxes. To be honest, I haven't crafted much lately using my carpenter and couldn't tell you what furniture is selling well.

However, my provisioner (level 45) is making mad money selling tier 3, 4 and now 5 foodstuffs. The mark-up is huge. Cost of firewood is maybe 10 silver max and you can easily sell crafted items for 40 silver plus per unit. Now its not mad money but it will easily pay for your tradeskill and then some.

Practically every harvestable raw sells for 2 cp on Nek server. The only exceptions are roots which are in the 4 silver range.

Heck! Let's renew this discussion! With the new expansion, we're looking at new tradeskill items coming up. I'm on the Najena server, but what I've noticed is that high tier items just don't seem to sell that quickly. ESPECIALLY since SOE decided to introduce the new mythical items. What I could see as being beneficial to all of us, would be the introduction of mythical tradeskill quests that we could do, to give us the capability of creating and selling limited mythical items (perhaps one at a time).

But as far as the "Most Profitable Tradeskill"? I would not hazard to guess that any one tradeskill on Najena server stands out above the rest. I have a level 80 Woodworker, who has Tinkering maxxed out, as well as a level 80 jeweler, a level 80 Tailor with Transmuting maxxed out (who supplies all of my other classes with shards/powders/etc), and a level 80 Provisioner. My better half has a level 80 Sage, level 80 Carpenter, level 80 Alchemist, and level 80 Provisioner as well. She was complaining about not selling very much furniture until the introduction of the guild halls. She says that she noticed competition has ramped up in regard to furniture prices, although some furniture is still ranging from roughly 75 gold to a plat+.

My woodworker sells totems constantly, but the prices are still low. He has the specs to find the blue collectibles, and we both harvest the epic tradeskill collectibles...selling them for usually about 2 or 3 platinum per set over a period of a week or so. Sales on collectibles seem to vary depending on the market, but what ALWAYS sell on Najena server are the rare harvested items, 60+ rares sometimes reaching prices of 4 to 7 plat or more (depending on how many are available on the broker).

What really ticks me off though, are the buttheads who grossly underbid us, in an attempt to "balance broker prices" to what they think (in their small minds) are fair market prices. The range of players holding gross amounts of platinum have more than doubled, due to the life of the game. So personally, I feel that any over-inflated prices that we generate are in relation to the amount of disposable platinum held by many high-level players, and should be worked with competitively. There is a difference between competitive pricing, and ridiculous attempts to control the market.
