Outdated guidesFollow

#1 Sep 25 2007 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
Hello, I just started playing EQII about 2 weeks ago and have noticed that the small number of guides I have found were wrote 2 or more years ago and could not find anything up to date (except the mount guide). This is after searching a number of different sites. My main question is why doesnt anyone write updated guides or modify the existing to bring them up to current times? Has the game hardly changed since 2005?

If there is maybe a website out there somewhere that I am missing please by all means let me know what it is. I spend a lot of time at work and have full internet access but only for browsing the web, they wont let me play at work. So I try and read up a little on the games I play and would like to be able to see something up to date.

The game has changed TONS. Enough that it's sometimes hard to keep up on. At Alla's anyone is welcome to write and submit a guide :)

Once I learn the game a bit more I will be happy to write some guides, and I have plenty of free time online when I am not allowed to play as well. I used alla alot for WoW when I played it and was amazed at how much information is on there. I just wished it was the same with EQ2, helpful things like item drop rate %'s and updated quest guides and so on.

The more people who actively contribute, the better the site gets!

Is it wrong to start "borrowing" guids off of other sites and add them here? I noticed that IGNvault has some newer ones. I suppose I could message the authors and ask if it's ok to repost on other sites. But does Allak have any policy against that, do they prefer original material or does it matter?

I get permission to use other material all the time, usually from folks who post on the forums. If you can get us written permission, we can repost it with "Originally posted on [website], used with permission". To do otherwise is plagiarism, not to mention rude.

You can also write your own. If you do, do NOT copy/paste and put your own name on it, we can get in big trouble for that. But no one said you had to discover something to write a guide on it.

If you have any doubt if you're plagiarizing or not, feel free to mail me at calthine@allakhazam.com

One of the main guides I have been looking for is one for achievement points, I found a bit of information looking through forums but no general guide that explains the system. That and guild status and how to gain it and what it does and so on. I suppose I will keep searching or start compiling what I learn from playing and filling in the blanks with information from forum posts.

Hang with us just a LITTLE bit longer until I finish the basic layout of the new AllaK EQ2 Wiki. Most of the guides are being moved into the wiki and I have already started to update some of the more obvious errors. After that, trust to our awesome community members to correct the info! Just a little bit longer... coming REAL SOON NOW(tm).

I told Alla to hire me to update the EQII content, write guides, zone outlines, class revamps etc. No dice. I did help write the new paladin guide for the WOW side of Allakhazam though!

It is a shame, I could have been writing raid guides as well.

Alla's is a community site - you don't have to work here to contribute!

You don't have to work to contribute, true. I have posted guides in the past for other games. Sent in information and corrections as well for quest info.

I could spend 3 months revamping the quest, class, zone information though on the EQ2 portion of the site. It would be a fun project but I would have to re-activate my account and take time out of my WoW raiding to get the work done.

Freelancing that doesn't sound like fun.

Plus I want to be an admin, or at least get my name in red! Get Illia to promise me Guru and I will write you a guide!

Haha! I think guru would take more than ONE guide :)

3 months, yeah, that's probably not much of an exaggeration. We've been focusing more on the db side of things; there's just not enough hours in the day, lol.

Do you know how to wiki? The wiki is not really "open" to the public yet, as in it is not linked to from anything, but it is actually up. If you would like to write guides in the wiki space, feel free!
