Wish you knew as a newb?Follow

Hi all, I'm new, recently converted by the Echoes of Fawdyer trial.

I have played many MMORPGs in the past, the main ones being FFXI and WoW. My WoW account expires next week and I'm not all too keen on renewing it, the "spark" has gone. :/

So, I found the trial, and throughly enjoyed it ^^ So, now I've bought the game. Only the basic game; thus far, plan to get the EoF expansion in the next day or so.

Anywho, I wanted to ask for tips and anything for a new player changing games. Kind of the things "I wish I knew back when I was a newb" kinda idea, and anything else you might want to toss in.

Also, in FFXI I throughly enjoyed being a WHM. In WoW my class choice was Hunter. So based on the gameplay and how things are done with parties, quests, etc.. what suggestions for class? I like a balance between solo and group play, I want to be useful in a group, but also able to solo if I'm not feeling like grouping, lol.

As well; if anyone has a server recommendation, can sort of chat with me in game and hook me up with a nice helpful, social guild, that would excellent! I left both FFXI and now WoW due to lack of people to just chat with, and I'm coming on EQII knowing no one :O

So, basically, I'd like any and all tips, suggestions and advice. Along with a welcoming server to play on with some folks who know I exist there ^_~

Any class can solo well as long as you know how to play your class, and that pretty much goes along the same with groups and raids, every class is useful in its own way so any class you decide to go you should not have any problems finding groups, although I will say if you are a healer you will probably the most amount of group invites, but thats with any MMO.

I'm on the Antonia Bayle server, one of the highest populated servers.

Right now I'm in a lvl 30 guild so we got a lot going for us, there just is not that many people on all the time, but aside from that if you do decide to hit up the AB server, send me a tell.

Im Shuyinn.

Also if you get the Echos of faydwer expansion it comes with every other expansion before it, so its a great buy.

Also! There is a new expansion coming out November 13th, Rise of Kunark. There will be a new race, a huge new area, lvl cap raised to 80 new mounts etc.

So I hope to see you in game, hope this helped!

I wish I had known about the ability to manipulate stacks and quantities of items with SHIFT and CTRL clicks earlier.

IF you buy the Echo's expansion DO NOT buy it from the Everquest 2 website. If you do you won't get the other expansions with it. You can get the all in one combo for the same price in either the retail boxed version, or the digital download from direct2drive.com

You should really consider upgrading ASAP. You can start earning alternate advancement points at level 10 witht he newer expansions. To earn them you have to complete quests, kill named mobs, discover new areas, etc. Every time you do that without the expansions you basically give up that exp forever.

Well back when I was a newb, us rangers could cast CA's and run at the same time, the "fizzle" was still around, and you could get mad buffs from clicky rings.

The biggest thing for me was learning how to use the broker to buy bags that had more than 4 slots.

Also that just because you have an armoire or chest in your house, doesnt neccisarily mean you can put things in them.

Harvest everything you can, especially on the newbie isle, those low level roots can sell for a hefty margin once you reach the main city.

Take the time to explore the idea of tradeskills. Cooking is nice because you then wont have to buy your food, which can get HUGELY expensive, and provide nice stat boosts at the later levels. Others allow you to make your own armor, jewlery, spells, or anything else.

I also played FFXI as a RNG/NIN and trust me you'll have a much easier time getting gear/spells in this game. Esp as far as gear goes, most quested and some mob dropped gear is better than player made for the first 40 or so levels.

As an ffxi vet I know your going to want that level-1-pristine-imbued-axe-of immortal-demon-slaying-goodness +1 because it has 1 more str point than anything else, but dont bother putting too much effort into your gear until the later levels, simply because you dont wear it that long as you will out level it quickly.

Just remember, solo questing gets more xp than solo grinding, and group questing gets more xp than anything.

Hi Aloria

wow what i wish i new as a newb lol first and formost macro's life is much simpler with them ,also to not be in such a rush to lvl there is so much content in this game its mind numbing and the fact you can get alot more aa's now with questing where as when i made my toon well lets just say it was a tad harder to get them in the beginning so take your time and enjoy it !!!!!

now im sure by now you've picked a toon and a server but i will make suggestion as to which toon i like for soloing and grouping, well you have alot of choices, But i personally like the Fury(you get great HoT's,great DoT's and you can nuke both single target and AoE) for both as healers are always in short supply plus you can solo with the fury when ever you want and at most lvl's. it gets alittle more dicey at the upper lvl's but it can be done!!!. i am on the Unrest server as Kitubac(Group Leader/Recruiter for Fall) if you've chosen this server and have a question dont hesitate to send a tell !!

welcome to Norrath and Safe Journey's to you always

Kitubac(60 Paladin-Unrest)
Destroyer Phreaknu(59 Fury-Venekor-retired)
Keepnu(38 Fury-Unrest)
Ganglador(50 shadowknight-EQ1 TallonZek-retired)

The biggest thing i wish i knew about is the broker, and how to use it.

Salesman crates are different from just boxes. Salesman crates are those that can be placed in your house and allow people to go to your house as a visitor and buy things at the base price (without paying broker fees).

They are usually ridiculously expensive so u probably wont have one for a while unless u tradeskill as a Carpenter and start makeing them yourself. Which is never a bad idea. Because u can sell them for ludicris amounts of money.

Anyway. Buy yourself some large slot boxes to put in your broker at first, and earn enough money to buy a saleman crate. Then u have to go to your house. Which is purchased at any Small city within Qeynos or Freeport. And place the crate on the ground, then u can place the icon in the broker selling slot.

It makes it so u can sell more items, especially when u start selling more expensive items. People will make the trip to your house if they can save 20gold to 40 gold because u have a salesman crate. Over just someone selling without.

For example: a

An item u sell on broker in regular box or bag for 1 platinum:

Shows up on broker as 1 P 20 Gold
if u have a salesman crate. Someone can go to your house and buy it for the price you put it up as. 1 Plat.

ok... this one is going to sound silly to some, but you'd be surprised the number of people who said 'omg... i didn't know you could do that' when I told them... in the bank, you have 4 'shared slots' ... what this means is that any character of the same alignment (good/evil) can access those slots. This is handy for transferring things back and forth (food/drink from your Provisioner, etc) obviously, NO TRADE items can't, but that's why they're called NO TRADE. What a lot of people DIDN'T know is that you can put bags in those slots and increase the # of slots.

Also, don't be in too much of a hurry to level up. Take the time to wander around and explore. And don't be afraid to turn off that Combat XP. Trust me, there's enough content in here, one of the worst strategies (imho) is to just blast through it. Since the lvl 70 doldrums, one of my favorite things to do with Sikaan is to just suit up and wander around the older zones, exploring everything that I just ran past in older days because I was rushing to group up...

Another hint... take the time to gather from the nodes. Nothing is more annoying than being told to gather 15 rock samples and when you try to mine the ore you get told 'Your Mining Skill is 15. You need 90' (that's not truly accurate, but you get the idea)

Above all, HAVE FUN!

As far as servers... it's up to you. When I first started, I was on Highkeep, but that server was merged with Butcherblock. Since my guild decided to stay with the merge rather than move to a different server, I stayed.

After reading an article in EQuinox about RP bars, I decided to sign in to Antonia Bayle and create a good toon and an evil toon. Giraud is in Qeynos, Naakis is still in Neriak (which TOTALLY rocks, imho better than Faydwer) and I'm having a BLAST on the role-playing servers. As for guilds; not to take things into a weird area, but your guild is sort of like an extended family. You want to make sure you find a good match. Just like guilds interview prospective members, don't be afraid to turn the tables and ask some questions yourself! maybe set up a 'getting to know you' period, where you and your prospective guild can group together, see how things work out!

Like others have written, your choice of profession and race are a matter of taste and style. There is little difference in race, due to the modification from development trees and items. This is similar to development in WOW.

There are some classes which survive and solo better than others. One of the strongest is the Necromancer. This is the evil version of the Summoner. There are classes which use tamed animals to attack, like the hunter in WOW. But if you want a front tank/ caster, the Necromancer has GREAT pets, and is very similar to the Warlock of WOW. I played all the classes in WOW and liked the Warlock and Hunter best. In EQ2, I play a Guardian, a fighter tank, so I can max armor and weapons. This character is less survivable and soloable than the Necromancer.

Another point. I tend to do quests which are a few levels below my character level. This is a WOW practice that I moved over to EQ2. This works well with all quests other than City Quests. City quests are level dependent. Once you're high enough level for city quests (level 12 I think) and are a member of a guild, the starting quest givers will have a list of quests you can do. There is a range of levels to their offerings. If you don't do their quests or finish all the offered quests within the level range (ex. level 11-14), they will no longer offer quests and direct you to the next level quest giver. This loses out on a lot of great quests. City quests give great experience and guild status amounts. So I recommend concentrating and finishing the list of City Quests when they're available. Hope these thoughts help.

Hi..

The best advice I have received to date, is once you have EoF expansion, and your above level 10, turn off your battle exp and just get AA's. It makes you so much more powerful that soloing is easier, your more valuable in a group and to be low level and have a cool title is pretty fun. The AA exp is harder to get at higher levels and you will still level up because the quest exp and the discovery exp is always on. So take your time through your teens and twenties and its kind of nice to just do the quests and get AA levels and not worry about being X level by next month. It took me moving from EQ1 to finally understand that this is not just a game, but its MY game. I can play it the way I want. I go for relaxation, fun and the ability to solo.

Other than that, I would echo the folks that urge keeping up on your collection abilities. And dont forget to pick up every "shinney" (little gold thing with a question mark over it) that you see. The collections take a while to do, but are great AA exp.

Which line of AA's to do first is of course personal pref and varies by class.

I enjoy my server (Unrest) but good players are welcome on all servers, Im sure.

Best of Luck!
Dan
