After playing EQ2 at my friends I wanted to see how well my pc can handle the game (via the 7 day Fae trial). I've had more crashes then I'd like and haven't even been able to create a character yet Smiley: frown.

The official site lists the geForce MX cards as not compatible, I'm no wizard here but I have a geForce GT 6800. Is that still an issue?

Ill keep trying all the settings but its not looking good...maybe the trial is what the issue is though. Any thoughts, advice?

The GT 6xxxx series of cards is on the compatible card list for EQ@, so you are good there. Got to http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_94.24.html and make sure that you have downloaded and installed the latest ForceWare drivers for your card and OS.

Checked all that, unfortunately still getting the vid card freakout. Have turned off everything (graphic glittery crap) that I could but it just refuses to cooperate. It may be the the graphics associated with the trial version too. But if you have any other thoughts keep em comin.

It's unlikely that it is something specific to the trial. The trial has game play limitations, but the core engine behind it is the same.

What specifically is happening when you try to play? Mottled video? Bad coloration? An error message? Lock-up? "Crashes" and "vid card freakout" is tough to troubleshoot on.

Once you get to where you can select a character, or set the gameplay options...the screen tears causing horizontal and vertical lines, and then locks up so altF4 doesnt do anything and i have to reboot.

And this only happens in this game? Sounds at first sight a driver issue, but could very well be the card itself if it happens with a similarly intense game.

Yeah, I've been playing LOTR with no problems like this...i dont think it uses as high of quality graphics though. But it would be nice to know if theres away around this issue using the existing computer without having to get a new video card.

It's definitely an issue with EQII only then, Lotr is perhaps easier on a computer than EQII but it is still pretty intense.

No idea I'm afraid, not that good with computers :(

The trial is actually they whole game engine with level limitations, according to the Marketing department (got to talk to them at Fan Faire). Let's see.

Your card is fine, provided it's it good shape. I run the 6600 with no problems. I'd make sure you're using one of the EQ2 tested drivers by checking here.

The next question is how much memory does your system have? The reqs say 512MB but you really have to turn down your in-game graphics quality to get it to run smooth; players recommend at least 1GB.

The other issue might be DirectX: EQ2 absolutely does not support DX10 in any way whatsoever; they recommend you roll back to DX 9.0c.

I hurredly went through the character process and once i got in game i was able to turn up a few things and it hasnt crashed yet.

Calthine I will have to check but I'm sure im dx 10 so I might look into that. as for memory im running 1.5g but i do only have a Pentium M 2.0 processor (not thinking its that though dual core wouldnt hurt).

I'm betting on the DX10.

Nope i guess im only on dx 9...which is good...i think by default some setting was too high for my system...i just leveled all the way to 10 (the max level a trial account can go). not as much lag or jerky graphics as i thought...maybe ill switch once my Lotr sub is done in 6 months. Thanks again for all who helped.
