What is the point in Faction?Follow

Hey all

Okay I know the extreams. Either they attack you or not. But what is the point in getting faction from not attacking to loving you.

Guards for example....why do I care?

Thanks

In the old days, EQ1, faction was the key to npc interactions in city states.
In the modern world, EQ2, they hard wire the bankers and city servants to hate you (it seems to me) if they're 'supposed to' hate you, so... meh...

only other levels this counts is - fees charged for products (or is that NOT any more?)

- access to faction specific "goodies" tradeskill, class, city items...

So, could be a wash all round if you've no use for those faction things which are not the bestest friends to you in the first place.

Also, "in the old days", one could manipulate a faction so you might be the only person in a raid who could walk past the inhabitants of a zone to drag corpses for resurrections in a safer location. Thus changing a very challenging raid wipe to a study in logistics and knowledge of the territory.

For most factions it doesn't seem like it means much. I know the factions for the writ givers in your city can affect what you can and can not buy from them. But really the only way that I know of to gain faction with them is to do writs.

I also think there is 3 factions in that city within the Desert's of Ro. If you gain enough faction with 1 of them you gain access to an area that sells your app2 spells 50+ along with a handful of other things. I never did get my faction high enough to do any of that though. In order to gain faction with 1 you have to become KOS to the other 2 factions which can make it a pain to walk around the city.

The four "guilds" in each city will offer you good items to buy and titles to use if you get ally faction. (they offer more goods when your faction raises, the better the faction, the more goods)

I haven't a clue about the Qeynos Royal Guard for instance, don't even know how to raise that faction.

Now all other faction will influence if they will attack on sight or not. And it is important to gain faction with some groups as they will not offer any quests or items before you reach a certain level. Take in Maj'Dul for instance (first expansion), if you get the kindly status with any of the three courts, you get access to their facilities. That enables you to use a bank, sell all items and get access to brokers.

It's usually very slow, a deliberate timesink, but at times the rewards are worth raising faction.
