If you a player of either EverQuest, or EverQuest II and you would like to beta test Legends of Norrath, please send an email with the subject header "LON" to [link=mailto:eq2beta@station.sony.com]eq2beta@station.sony.com[/link]. Please include your Station Account name (not the password) in the body of the email.

As the scope of the beta expands, participants will include people who send an email to this address. There is no current timetable to share for exactly when each and every person will be added to the beta pool, but this is the best chance to make sure your name is on the list!

Emails to this address will not be answered, the best location for any questions you may have is the Legends of Norrath official forums.

Grimwell added today:

Please Note:

Quote:
When you're sending in account names, please make sure that the subject is LON and the email body simply contains an account name, with no other text.

We are receiving many emails with more data, signatures, etc. and this confuses the script that is pulling the Station ID's from the email to get you into the beta pool. Please make sure that your email subject has nothing other than LON in the text field and the body of the email only has your Station ID in it. Nothing else.

Emails with extra text in them will fail to be processed as they will generate errors and be passed over by the tool that is gathering this information.

If you already sent an email in with extra text elements in to the beta pool, it is safe to send a second email with just the requested information.

We have not begun to add people to the LoN beta! So do not panic when you do not get a reply from the system. We are collecting ID's at the moment, and will let you know when we invite the first wave of folks!

Hello all,

I just wanted to drop a note saying that we have opened the LoN beta further tonight to a random sampling of users who have logged into EQ or EQ II in the last month. You can try the /tcg command or your LoN button to check if your account has been enabled for LoN beta. (note this may require people logging out and back in).

Is it an open beta? Meaning open for discussion and debate here?

We should probably check on their Beta forums. But I haven't seen anything resembling an NDA.

True, considering what they talk about there, I'ld say there isn't any.

It's a fun game really, although I'm not that keen on paying for the extra cards. Sure, it's not a lot of money, unlike some card games out there that are very similar, but still.

From Gallenite in the thread linked above:

Quote:
Everyone from EQ and EQ2 who have mailed in to the eq2beta@station.sony.com address as of 9:45AM pacific today (Sunday) has been added to the LON beta as have another group of randomly chosen active accounts.

Reminder: If you've mailed in and still don't have access, please remember that your email should have the subject LON and the body of the mail should simply be your account name. Just that one word.

It's great that people want to send in thanks and special explanations why they want to be a part of the beta, but if you put your account name on a line with other text, there's a chance it won't get picked up by the system that's accepting these mails.

Enjoy the game!

What is this "Legends of Norrath" of which you speak? (a whole new game?)

It's a card game based on most of the other kiddie games for 5 to 10 year olds. Costs are
2.99 for booster pack
9.99 each for mage scout fighter priest packs
99.99 for a box of booster packs.

Hope your wallet is big.

The only thing worth it for this are the special cards that give in game items such as mounts, potions, cloaks, illusions, etc.

Personally i think this game is a waste and should not of been forced upon us for download. I didnt get this game to play cards. Just my oppinion and im sure others hate it or love it alot.

Arggggg... I tried "Pirates" out when SOE released it and although it was kind of fun (I played both MTG and L5R for years) there were/are so few people playing that it was next to impossible to get a game even during peak hours.

And yes, like all CCGs it will be a HUGE money sink!

Apparently you can play against players on any server, including both EQ1 and EQ2. You can also play via the stand-alone client app.

I'm not keen on spending real cash on extra cards either.

Those are fairly rare though, got 7 booster packs and no luck so far.

(removed sig, can't seem to make it fit by resizing, now lost the image, I'll get the hang of it sometime!)

I ran through the tutorial last night. I managed to win the final game of the tutorial by killing the opposing avatar. I'm still not exactly sure how to play though! Winning was more by luck than judgement. It's not the easiest game ever.

You can keep playing against the computer, there is a list of scenarios you can complete. The first ones are very easy, but it's practice and that's always handy!

Also note that you don't /have/ to pay money to acquire cards. You can trade cards with other players and when the game goes live monsters will have a secondary (completely separate from the normal loot check) check to see if it drops LoN packs/cards. So while you can of course increase your chances of getting the rarer and more powerful cards by purchasing extra packs (as is the case with any CCG) it is not /required/ to play and you will be able to earn cards for free.

Personally I'm liking the game as a standalone game, but I am not liking it as an in-game distraction. When it was announced I was envisioning something that was a quick game. Something that took a few minutes to complete a hand. Something you could use to pass the time while waiting on a spawn or waiting for a group member to travel to you. As it is, you can't do that. A good game against a skilled player can take 30-45 minutes or so. That's far to long for what I wanted the game to be. The game itself is fun and were it an /actual/ CCG I might be inclined to play it, but as it stands it's just too involved.

Stu,
I think you just said the game is stand alone while in beta too?
I haven't found that yet. It would be nice to have available for my lap top which, while just misses on EQ2 gfx handling, should work the game table just fine... I just started fiddling with the tutorials last night. Interesting :)

Misunderstanding. My fault. I worded that statement poorly. It should read, "I would like it as a standalone game, but...". At this time I don't believe there is a standalone client available to the general beta folk.

Trading might be a bit rough at first, not all that many cards to trade with. Ofcourse, lots of people will concentrate on one colour, the starter deck they receieve. So there will be options naturally.

I was wondering about the drop rate of those cards, expected it to be active but I suppose that would put the beta players at too much of an advantage.

The stand-alone client we only we told would be available "after launch." I also heard "In the future".

Current target live date is 9/5.
