EQ1 Kazam vs EQ2Follow

#1 Aug 16 2007 at 6:12 PM Rating: Decent
Why is it that the EQ2 version of Kazam is way different then EQ1?

As in no listing for what mobs items are found on etc? I wont even get into it, im just curious overall.

For starts EQ1 has been around alot longer giving them alot more time to soak in the information. Also in Eq2 loot drops are different then in eq1. In Eq1 any named minus raid mobs generally drops either a common drop or a rare drop. In Eq2 they can drop master chests, normal chests, etc.

Um, we do hook items to whatever mobs or quests they came from, I'm not sure where you're looking. If an item is not hooked to a mob or quest it's usually because the player who submitted it didn't tell us.

Here's a couple of examples:

Gauntlets of Hate Here you can see these are acquired via a quest called Plate Gauntlets of Hate, and you can click through to the quest.

Gauntlets of the Shadowstalker These you can see drop in Enchanted Lands off N'Kzak the Unnatural.

Now crafted items have no connections, like these
Pristine Forged Fulginate Vanguard Gauntlets. This is because there was a major tradeskill revamp and basically made all our crafting recipe information, well wrong, and we recently deleted every recipe we had. We're working on it, but it's not a huge priority as there are *more* crafting changes coming in the next expansion.

Another issue is that there is no way to automate data collection as there is with Lucy on the EQ1 site. Every bit of data in our EQ2 database was hand-collected by someone, whether it was one of the staff or our wonderful community.

Probably more answer than you wanted :)

Well I mean it tells you the "Zone" they come from, but what im saying....

IS wouldnt it be more informative to say for example, what mob it came from and what chest type possibly? I understand its adding more information to the structure, but information is what per-say we are compiling here.

For example

If say I go to... the Graveyard, and kill the named "Sir" skeleton forgot hsi name

He drops anywhere from nothing up to master / ornate chests, which the chest contain "said" items, in which by linking those items souly to that mob, a member could then click an item... in the itme description it would say the zone, and all that stuff then, "mob(s)" it came from, by clicking on the said mob you could then see what "Chest" types, if any it drops and what are usually i nthe chests.

Yes im asking for more info, I think it would help a huge amount of peopel out not to mention possibly bring in a little more revenue from EQ 2 customers etc...

Hell id help cod eit myself if need be...

theres my 2 cents lol

You also have to remember that, with the exception of occasional quest drops and nameds that drop specific items, that most any mob of any level can drops potentially hundreds of items given that in addition to any normal drops, most mobs can also drop a crafting recipe or spell or combat art of their appropriate level range. Knowing what type of chest items come from isn't /that/ important. If you know a mob has a treasured a legendary and a fabled drop, you know that the fabled drop will come from an exquisite chest, the legendary from an ornate chest and so on down the quality line. Knowing that a mob drops a given item is sometimes important and if a mob drops a specific, unique item, we should have it listed. If we dont then someone needs to submit it.

snd there's the rub. in the past Allahk's was THE place to get information. Now we have other sites which pool information too. So, the user base who are updating the dBase available at any one location is now diluted and not providing ONE site with ALL the information from the game at hand. In the past, I suppose because games were new and expected to last forever, we as players expected to be making the information last as our echo of self in the machine. Now we've grown up, had life get in the way some 20 thousand times and - even worse - discovered there are many games in the mix, find we enjoy PLAYING much more than DOCUMENTING. So, toward the younger generations: Go for it! Be it done here or at Wiki or 10 ton hammer I don't really care - as long as search continues to find good information or someone in game can guide the next step is good for me.

(NOW if the developers would ever give out their play books; say one expansion back, so people could learn 1 iota of the depth they've actually put into game THAT would be something I'd pay real money for!)

They do say what mob they drop from,. with the exception of spells, which aren't mob specific.
