Dont delete your characters on WoW. Just cancel your account for the time being. You can always reactivate if you find yourself missing Azeroth.
I've played both games off and on since release. I enjoy both for different reasons, and when I find myself in a stalemate on one, I just pop on the other. My preference is EQ2 over WoW, but that generally has to do with the people in the game.
Community is much more mature in EQ2. They're more helpful, but they will also expect you to try and do research first. With the amount of information websites out there, you can find out a lot of stuff on your own before asking a question outright.
I never run across the WoW crap you see in the Barrens or other newb zones. it might be the server I am on, or I might just be lucky.
EQ2, like stated, is a middle ground between EQ and WoW when it comes to difficulty. You can still solo all the way up of you choose, but you will miss out on a lot of the content if you go that route, unlike WoW. It's a lot slower to level up that way as well. Also unlike WoW, EQ2 promotes grouping together, even going so far as to add a mentoring ability so you can join friends of any level. I really wish all games had this ability as it truly makes playing with your friends much more feasible if one of you had had a head start. And really, isnt that what playing MMOs is all about? I wasnt fond of the way WOW promoted soloing through the mainland content. It was actually detrimental to group with someone outside an instance. In EQ2 you also get bonus XP when grouping, esp if you have a full group.
Dying is a bit different. Instead of losing durability as you fight (WoW) you lose 10% everytime you die. You have ten chances to die before your armor is useless. You gain debt too. You wont lose xp like you did in EQ, but you will have to fight a couple of mobs before you're back to where you were prior. It's a good reason to really work hard on not dying. Also, instead of rezzing at a GY and having to run to your corpse, you are brought back alive at some local point.
There are a ton of quests in EQ2, and many different types. Not all are as easy to figure out as WoW. Sometimes, quests start just by examining something you may have looted.
