Some questions from a newbieFollow

#1 Aug 07 2007 at 8:34 PM Rating: Decent
Hello, I just got the game. I have a few questions however.

1) What are the main differences between a Troubadour and a Dirge? Which is more desired in groups, and which is a better soloer?

2) Are Wardens able to solo decently and are they valued in groups as well? And can I fight while in a form/illusion?

3)
How do I remove NPC text from showing up in my chat box? I tried unchecking private chat, which worked, but then I wasn't able to see tells.

4)
I noticed that on the hotbar, there are spinners. Is there a way to map these spinners to a certain key. I'm wondering because I am planning on using a controller.

5)
If I don't make an Evil character, how many quests and such will I be missing out on? I really want to just have two characters; a Wood Elf Bard and a Halfling Druid. I was trying to change that so that one character is evil, but I really didn't want to change the race..and it might kill the lore if I betray.

6) Regarding betraying; two things..

a) Is my class automatically changed, or can I just become evil? I'm wondering about a Wood Elf Troubador here. If I betray to Neriak, or any other city, do I automatically become a Dirge? And vice versa?

b) If I've betrayed to an evil city, does this make my character 'evil'? I guess what I'm asking is; is the game clear-cut Good and Evil or are there neutralities depending on race?

Thanks!

IF you betray Qeynos to Neriak you will become max scowled at by Qeynos, Ally to Neriak, and Indifferent to Freeport. I am sure you will be scowled at by Kelethin as well. Your class will change over to the evil version of it and all your spells/skills are reset to app1 regardless of what you have at the time you finish betrayal. I might be wrong but I THINK you get to re pick your free Master 2 spells, but I'm not 100% sure. IF you betray you are pretty much 100% evil as far as that goes. Its as if you was never in the previous city.

Pretty well any class can solo in this game. There are several mobs marked with a down arrow or no arrow at all that are meant to be soloed. I played a Warden as an alt up to about level 24ish once. I had no trouble soloing with the character, in fact it was a fun toon actually. Healers also are generally in demand for a group which makes grouping abit easier.

Far as quests goes most, if not all, main quests such as heritage quests are available for you rather your good or evil. Some might be a pain because you have to sneak through the opposing town to do them (Ghoulbane comes to mind if your evil), but they are still doable without fighting epic guards if your careful. There might be a handful of kill X mobs for noob loot you won't get to do, but there is about always something just as good for the evils to do. Once you get past level 20 everybody good and evil are hunting in the same zones. Really past 20 it doens't matter if your good or evil as far as grouping/quests go.

1. The main difference is that a troubadour has beneficial buffs for their group, while a dirge has detrimental buffs towards the enemy. Think of it this way: the troub sings upbeat songs that make the group want to go out and do their best! While a troub sings so badly and off key, it makes the enemy want to kill itself to get away from them. I love my dirge. Both are wanted in groups and raids.

2. Any class can solo, wardens do well, but slowly. Yes, you can fight in illusion form.

3. Right click your chat box and click off NPC tell and/or NPC say.

4. No clue as I've never used anything but my keyboard.

5. You really wont be missing out on too many quests. Each faction has their own quests when you're very young, but each side is equal. Once you get out in the world a little bit, the quests will be accessible to either side, and usually found in a neutral zone. By the way, instead of warden, if you went fury you can have an evil half elf fury. Just a thought.

6a. Yes, your class will change if you betray, unless you went with a neutral class, like the fury aforementioned. But troubs and dirges are neutral too, so you would not have to betray.

6b. Yep, if you betray your character would also be considered evil. You would get run out of Qeynos by the guards if you werent careful, you wouldnt be able to have a house in there. And vice versa.
