Buying EQ2, Questions!Follow

#1 Aug 05 2007 at 4:19 PM Rating: Decent
I'm coming from WoW looking for a deeper more rewarding experience. I played the Play the Fae Trial and loved it. I'm going to buy the All-in-One Package from Direct2Drive. My Question is how well can I expect my system to run the game in other areas, the Trial area wasn't too graphically intensive, I ran it on High Settings.

AMD 64 3200+ CPU (2.2 GHz)
BFG Nvidia 6800 GT Ultra 256mb
2GB DDR400 RAM
Windows Vista Ultimate.

Should I downgrade to XP, if I did would I get a noticble performance increase. Should I overclock my CPU/videocard? Or will this setup give me decent performance out of the box.

Also, How does the game fair endgame. I get the impression that the game has alot of epic adventures, which is what im looking for. A Game with alot of depth and challenged and good group play and epic missions.

Thanks in advance, hopefully I'll see you all in Norrath!

IT should run fine on your setup. You might have some trouble running through towns if you set it on high *south qeynos has to be about the worst*.

I tried WOW and it felt like a watered down eq2 IMO. I wanted to like WOW, I really did.

Far as endgame goes the highest I have ever played was level 57 so I can't tell you too much.

Eq2 has loads of epic quests and the rewards are very nice. This might be the perfect time to start since the RoK expansion will be out by Christmas - which leaves you a few months to get to L70.

Note - new RoK level cap will be L80.

bah, if you like Vista, keep it. Not worth the headache.
I've now set up two computers which run it and have 8800 cards on them. The one thing that gets me on occasion is a drawfile load that faults out, even when there's "only" 2Gig of space available. It's aways about 1 meg in size, causes an exception fault and kills the game back to desktop. As far as the OS is concerned - no harm, no foul. This tends to happen only in Very high, and Extreme high quality settings. Someone at SOE might want to work that minor issue out if it's not directly on the nVidia drivers.

- Oh, and I'm an alt fanatic but I do play the high end raid game as well. VERY satisfying - for now... AoC might make me change that impression (someday).

How do you make a post on the EQ2 Players Forum? I'm logged in, but I can't find any button/link to make a new topic or reply to a thread?

In each forum under the bolded white forum title in the upper left quadrant of the page will be a "New Topic" button, and each individual post within a thread should have a "Reply" and "Quote" button. If you aren't seeing these, go up to the very top and click "Sign In/Change User". The SOE board software is very flakey when it comes to telling when you are logged in or not sometimes and logging in again can often correct issues such as this.
